Well, after 4 stock removal blades (yeah, plus 3 I'm working on and 2 folder kits so I can figure out how those crazy things work), I've ordered a pile of 1084 and want to start forging. There are 3 ABS mastersmiths south of me in the gilroy/santa cruz/visalia area, and probably a few other smiths around.

How does one go about setting something up? Or getting a day in a shop with someone, even?

Who the heck is in Santa Cruz and Gilroy?!?

That's where I'm from and I'd love to look them up.

Mike Vagnino is in Visalia and is a great teacher!

Don Fogg is in Exeter, which is near to Fresno- Why I typed gilroy is beyond me, I've lived in Fresno! (and from Davis, it's a HUGE driving difference. Exeter is a lot easier to get to.)

James Rodebaugh is listed as being in Oak Hills, which is 20 miles south of SC- which isn't even as far as a grocery run out here, yknow.

Looks like Mr. Vagnino is right down I5, also. About 3 hours drive door to door. Probably Anything on the coast is ... well, 3.5 hours to get to San Jose with traffic, then that silly so called highway to get to the coast side. I've had 8 hour trips to see my brother in law at UCSC.

complete surprise to me. Probably can't afford it, which is why I'm so busy learning by error :)

Of course, it might be worth putting the family on short rations for a month to go.

I live 11 miles from Sierra Forge and Fire in Exeter. I plan to attend one of their forging classes when I can afford it.

I'm much further North. It would be great to hear about a Hammer In in the Northern part of California. I'm talking about North of San Francisco.

Well, maybe we can get someone to drive up! I'm in Davis and can probably access a decent site. Maybe even use the UC craft center forge....

Hosting and organizing I can do, but I'm mostly looking to learn forging, so I ain't the one for demo....
