After seeing the Tidioute #54 Jacks come out last month I was tempted to pull the trigger but decided to hold out for the Northfield versions. I'm glad I did. Another home run by GEC.

I was hoping for a bit brighter yellow but luck-of-the-draw is what it is. The fit and finish are great as usual. Blades are both perfectly centered and have good half-stops. Pull is about 6-7. I'm digging the slanted bolsters and shield. Even more impressive is the heft on this knife. At 4-1/4" and 4 oz this is not a small knife but it feels good in the hand and rides well in the pocket. This will pair up nicely with my new Seb 21. :D

That's a beautiful 54! I like this bone a lot, I have 2 other patterns in this bone, a 77 and a 99, I think the 54 pattern is a very useful size indeed. I have a couple of the 54s in HJs, wish mine had the slanted, pinched and threaded bolsters though. Congrats on getting one!

Although I would argue that the pull on the new #54's is more of a 7-8, I'll definitely agree that they are beautiful! The farthest left is from '09. I like how they slanted the bolsters in the same direction on the newer ones. The orange perylic is a moose and the far right is a Forest Jack. I also have a Tortoise Shell on the way. I love this pattern, especially the Big jack. Something about the very plain handle shape just does it for me. Wish I had better pics.

Great lineup draggat! I too have a Forest Jack in stag and love it!

Thanks! I have to admit that I love the single blade setup of the Forest Jack. A single clip or spear Northfield is a grail knife for me. I could get one customized, but I don't know if I could choose clip or spear!

Well, being on a bit of a clip blade kick at the moment, I would go that route myself, but I do like the modified sheepfoot blade on the Forest Jack.

I really like the looks of the 77 single blade in stag. But it doesn't matter, they're all gone too.

What a beautifully knife and just added it to my list of knives to purchase as funds become available. Personally I like a knife with a little heft to it as it just seems to feel just right when handling.

Addylo, I love the color of your new smooth bone, and the Northfield treatment is really great on these, with the cut swedges and long pulls. It is solid rain here, so pics are indoors with a flash, but here is my 2008 Big Jack in burnt grizzly cut bone, my first ever GEC knife. This is still one of my favorite GEC jigged bones, although the Northfield blades are sexier with the pulls and swedges. I remember when I first got this how taken aback I was at the strength of the pulls, a 7-8, but after much use and working it, now it's a smooth but stout 6-7, perfect for a heavy user. I know you'll enjoy yours!

Discussion of club knives from another site does not belong in a discussion thread. Take it to email or VM.

I have un-hijacked this thread.

I bought the #54 Northfield smooth autumn bone Big Jack as well, amazing knife but I sold it to fund the Stag version coming this week. I do however have the #54 Big Jack in Gabon Ebony and Maroon Micarta.

btw the Northfield smooth autumn bone is Camel bone although its not disclosed for some reason.

Beautiful 54 Big Jack addylo, My first GEC was the 78 and it is very stout and I love the feel of heavy duty jack knives so I too am putting this on my wish list.

I think the Northwoods for KSF is Camel Bone. I believe the Northfield Smooth Autumn Gold is Bovine Bone. Help me out here Derek.

I was told by Tyler @ KSF when I asked reffering to how much they look like KSFs Northwoods SFO that the Northfield #54 BJs were in fact Camel Bone as well.

I asked KSF the same question. Their reply was that, according to GEC, the Smooth Autumn Gold are indeed camel bone. Not sure why this isn't mentioned in the marketing.

strange kind of that its not mentioned. Camel Bone is Fine.

The general run #54 Smooth Autumn Gold were Northfield and were bovine bone. The KSF SFO Tidioute Smooth Autumn Gold were camel bone.
