Northfield Lockback Hunter

Christian, I think that that knife is a near perfect one for me, I am a fan of single or two bladed knives, and that blade shape is a nice ressurection of the older HJ's with all of the features packed into one smaller knife, I say its a very nice knife, like I said n the Stag thread, the Bolsters, those lovely Stag scales, the Lanyard hole, and the blade shape..... this one gets the big thumbs up from me, Thanks for showing us!

Very nice looking #72. I love the scales.

I have four of 'em, and prefer them to the similarly framed #73, but I'm not sure that the spear and Wharncliffe blades are as well suited to the frame as the original low-profile clip point blade, due to the exaggerated width when closed, but that's just me.

Question: I haven't handled the spear version. Does it do the hand-exerciser squeeze like the Wharncliffe version? If you press gently on the closed blade, the Wharnie's tip will eventually hit the lanyard tube; an attribute that I find a little disconcerting, though it's not likely to happen unintentionally.

OTOH, squashing the blade down into the handle only partially allows it to fit into a sheath that would otherwise be too narrow, making it a more compact package to carry.

Beautiful clip-sheath--please tell me where you got it.

Consider too, the 73 Liner lock version of this knife. The two I own are really well made and the liner tab doesn't interfere with my grip either (Queen's version can on some patterns)

Good looking knife! I really like the blade
shape and the stag. Nice swedges as well.
Congrats..

Sorry to reboot an old thread but having just purchased one (and impatiently waiting for it to arrive) what are your thoughts on it now?

That Ohta on the other hand. Yowzers.

I did like the Stag on the GEC though . .

It is a nice knife. Really nice. Strangely enough it hardly gets carried. I was given a stag #73 for Father's Day last year and it sees the lion share of pocket time. The Ohta is a better knife in every way -- craftsmanship, quality materials, good looks. But inexorably I find myself reaching for the #73 in the morning. There is just something about using a knife from my wife and daughter that makes me smile.

I can't fault you for that. Seeing the photos above, showing the size of these in hand, I do think a #72 is in my future. I would like something locking for hiking and camping . . .

You could keep you eyes peeled for a #73L.....

Idiot proof linerlock (if you can call it that...). Less wobbly blade issues than the #73's. A little harder to come by but worth the hunt:)

Sam, that's what I've been carrying now for a couple days. Wonderful knife. I love the shape of the drop point.

Indeed, seems the best of both worlds. Locking blade, but with the all-around tight construction of a slipjoint, as opposed to the oft-wiggly lockback build.

Looking to get a GEC #72 spear point lock back wondering about width ,could someone give me a measurement at its widest point when closed , thanks

I traded for a spear bladed ebony 6 or 8 weeks ago. Wasn't sure how I would get along with the blade shape but I have become pretty fond of it. Just took a little getting use to. Works well as a edc utility blade.
