A little late to the party, but I finally picked up a GEC #73. My particular specimen has a single blade and burnt stag scales.

I really like this knife. Fine craftsmanship, beautiful scales, good steel, and incredible value all in one package. Basically it's...

...a knife that will look, feel, and perform like an authentic American pocket knife from the late 19th and early 20th century, the golden age of pocket cutlery.

It's not all roses though. The Scout is a birthday present from my wife. The thing is, my birthday isn't until November. I don't know how I'm going to refrain from chicken-eyein 'n coon-fingerin this knife when it's so near by. This is going to be a real test of willpower.

Thanks Kevin. I agree, it is pretty amazing. It's funny, part of me wishes it weren't so, that way the wait wouldn't be as hard. LOL...

Nice score, man! I have one almost identical to yours, but yours has nicer stag. Just did a cool forced patina on it the other day with some hot vinegar. The single blade scout is my favorite GEC pattern; so useful, rides easy in the pocket and it fits the hand well.

Enjoy that sucker!

Christian,

At least you know you have no chance of being let down! Its a ringer for sure :)

I have a hard time waiting a few DAYS when my girlfriend gets me a knife :-p

HI Christian!

I like that #73 very much. The stag is great and the swedges in the blade make it look really great.

Congratz to the knife and the wife. Man, you can when you will ... it´s hard not taking it and carrying. But I´m sure you have the patience, you´ll enjoy it much more later :)

Kind regards
Andi

hence the expression "cruel to be kind". Waiting for that ,just knowing it is there would be like torture to me.

Christian, I can help you out mate, and I wouldnt do this for just anyone.
Send the knife to me, and I will make sure it is looked after until such time its your birthday my friend.:D

Im not saying exactly which birthday you will receive the knife back.:)

Thanks guys, this is a nice piece. Most of the GEC patterns don't appeal to me all that much, but this model in stag got to me. I've had it less than 24 hours and it is already my 2nd favorite production slipjoint.

Easily one of the nicest stag #73s I've seen. Ya did good. Enjoy the exquisite torture 'till November. It'll be well worth the wait, and happy up-comin' birthday.

Absolutely gorgeous, congrats! Makes me wish I had gotten a stag 73 too, mine's in walnut stain bone, but it's got a real sweet pull, about a 5.5. How's the pull on yours? I've read some of the earlier 73's were nail breakers.

Very nice Christian. Have you given any thought to putting a GEC bail on it?

That is a terrific looking Scout, the stag is sweet, congrats!

Just put a GEC bail on my Tidioute 2B Scout. I bought it awhile back, originally thinking I might install it on my Bullnose, but I had a nicely colored piece of paracord left over from an extra Wood Badge woggle so that went on the Bullnose. When my 72 lockback came I thought about installing on that, then it hit me, the 72 is a "Scout", and what's a Scout knife without a bail!?! :D
