Northridge vs tw 90

Piano style hinges have worked on grinders for decades. Its not the hinge that makes the machine stable, its the weight of the machine coupled with the bottom support in the horizontal postition that makes the machine stable. CNC precision or not, the Northridge hinge is overdesigned in my humble opinion as a former automation engineer. No hinge of this nature is worth 500 bucks. Competitor machines with their lowly off the shelf style hinges are typically in the 150 to 250 price range for the horizontal option. And to tell you the truth, this was a major reason I didn't go with this grinder...that and the fact that I didn't want to pay twice as much as anywhere else for their other as yet to be priced options, like a 10" wheel for instance. Sure, they'll claim its that best precision milled wheel to come around since the stone age, and then charge a premium over that claim. This is what worries me about this company at this point. Perhaps I'm wrong....we won't know until they publish all of their pricing. Now don't get me wrong, from the looks of it, the grinder is a nice one and anyone that purchases one is bound to be happy with it, as with any other grinder in this price range....they're all good grinders.

I do appreciate yours and Larryz10 insight on this
As you both probably been around longer and have done.more then I :)
It's all about the knives anyways .
Besides there is one thing still that I want to clear up with northridge before I decide to go with them

Debates about equipment seem always to be somewhat spirited...its like asking who make a better truck than Ford....(no one of course :D ) Do keep us posted as far as what Northridge has to say.

Like I said Tony I appreciate all the input :)
I will keep you posted and please call me Paul
Teppojutsu can be a mouth full

I just picked up an articulating tool rest from Northridge to use on my Esteem. Its the best toolrest I have used to date, and the knuckles are rock solid after only nominal tightening. No more reefing on the clamps for the rest to hold. If the grinder is up to the quality of the tool rest, it will be top notch.

Thank you for the feedback

Paul did your FB guy come through for you? I'd be interested in seeing the grinder in action as well.

I'm excited to see how you decide.

If you want to see them let me know I'll forward them to you other wise I don't know how to transfer it to here .

It looks very impressive the guy looks like a bigger dude and he lays into it with some very thick looks like 1/2 or so stock and it did not phase it at all :)

I think I'm going Northridge
Edit he said it was 3/8 stock but it looked pretty beefy to me

Anybody have any experience with the Outlaw 2 grinder? Talked with the owner Matt he said he is selling the business! Any thoughts good, bad or indifferent. Thanks

When considering not only performance but also resale value, it seems foolish to choose anything other than a proven design, especially if they are the same price.

I agree that comparing a purchase you must consider price

but I differ on resale value.

The only way that matters is if you plan to resell it.
If I planned to resell it, then it would just be much better in terms of $ to not buy it.
