I am close to pulling the pin on a Northwoods Fremont. I am a bit OCD in regards to blade centring. My question is what is Northwoods like for blade centring ie: hit and miss, always dead centred???

I noticed KSF have a bunch of Fremonts in stock so I was simply going to request they pic one with a centred blade.

I owned a bullet jack and it was dead centered. I now own a Burnside Jack and it is dead centered.

In the past three days I:

1) Went to the Northwoods brick and mortar and handled a bunch of their knives; all Northwoods brand were well-centered and great F&F.

2) Bought a Bullet, Burnside, and Freemont: all dead-centered.

3) Have interacted with the gents there in person and by phone and can attest they WILL make sure you are happy.

Moved from Traditional. This is more about customer satisfaction than about the knife itself. GBU it is.

My Madison Barlow is centered perfectly - as said above, if you ask Derrick he'll make sure to check for centering. :)

This is about fit/finish of the Northwoods knives, mainly the Fremont Jack.

I will yield much less information in GBU vs the Traditional forum!!!

Get yourself a two or three blade knife, then you won't have to worry about off-centre :D But blade-rub....:eek::D

Traditionals are constructed from many parts/diverse materials, often on older machinery so you may well encounter off centre blades. Many of my single blade Traditionals are centre, some not, but so long as it's not rubbing I ignore it. If you are used to fine tolerances on Modern knives then you may be upset by this, as others have noted, ask the dealer to closely inspect the knife before sending. Hope you will enjoy your Northwoods.

It was, until people started mentioning dealers. If you are concerned, then you need to go straight to the source, and ask the seller to find one that is dead centered.

Lol, my questions were regarding the Northwoods knives. I simply made a statement about the KSF/Requesting blade centring.

No worries.

They will check the blade centering if you request they do it at the time you purchase. Member Okbohn is the owner of Knives Ship Free, and he frequently posts on the forums, aside from being a supporting dealer. They have great service.

FWIW - My Northwoods Fremont is perfectly centered as are both of my other Northwoods knives. I've been very impressed with the F&F of that line of knives. Derrick (okbohn) maintains high standards for Northwoods (a line of knives designed and made for KSF - for those unaware). He is also a great dealer and I am quite certain that any issues you might have he would immediately make right. They have some of the best CS of anyone that I have dealt with.

JMO.

Thanks for all the kind words, folks!

Just put a note on your order and we are happy to check for centeredness for you. :)
