This is my Nosferatu kwaiken. Like its mythical counterpart, this one can develop a taste for blood if you are not careful! This blade is quite unique, and features my hybrid grind. If you are looking for a highly optimized cutting tool, this is it.
The blade is made from differentially heat treated 3/16 1095. I performed all heat treat and tempering operations. While this blade may appear to be flat ground, it is actually what I call my "hybrid" grind. The hybrid grind is essentially an extremely wide hollow grind that goes up to the spine of the blade. This creates geometry of a continuous arc along the blade, resulting in amazing cutting performance.
The handle is exceptionally comfortable in either standard or reverse grip. The wrap is nylon and is impregnated with epoxy to prevent unraveling or moisture retention. The under wrap is a choice piece of black sting ray skin. Keeping with the overall theme of the knife, the menuki is a very detailed vampire bat.
The knife is extremely sharp, and is a fantastic cutter due to the hybrid grind. The blade was taken to 600 grit, and then blasted with a very fine media. The result is a smooth, yet subdued finish that is quite attractive. The hamon is still visible.
