Last night was the fireworks display for the Freedom Festival which is a joint celebration of Canadian (July 1) and American (July 4) holidays. They used to have the fireworks in between the two dates, but now for some reason they hold it a week earlier.

Anyhow, I had the opportunity to enjoy the view in my mothers apartment on the 19th floor where we were basically directly facing the fireworks. Rupestris has remarked a couple of times how when he was younger he used to cross the boarder and view the show.

Sorry this one isn't so wilderness related. I almost flagged the Prefix-Fire as a joke. Hmmm - now how about a few roman candles to get your tinder going????

Wilderness??? Perhaps not - but at least it shows my lovely river in its glory...

WOW KDG!!

I am flattered. Thank you for posting those awsome shots.

I didn't make it down there this year but I could hear them from my house. I watched on the local channel and when they ended I could still hear them for quite a long time afterwards. As the crow flies, I'm less than 8 miles from "ground zero". Pretty amazing to hear them from that far away.

As for W&S, anyone thats been to Detroit knows, it truely is a modern wilderness and can offer its own twist on survival. ;)

Thanks again!

Chris

Thank you for the compliments guys - and Chris glad you were able to enjoy it even if you couldn't attend them.

amazing photos. may i ask what settings/camera you use for it? i always have trouble getting shots of fireworks and have never been able to get them that clear and bright.

Baldtaco pulled off the stamped info with the image. I put the camera into programmed auto mode, as opposed to the auto setting, to ensure the flash would not go off. Hand held (should've brought the tripod but didn't), but was leaning on a wall for stability. I would fix the camera settings (by depressing the trigger half way and holding it until taking the shot) by metering in on a flash and waiting for the next display.

There was a bit of post-postprocessing of the images - mainly to darken the shadows a bit and used the image sharpen feature of Picaso to remove a touch of my handhold wobblyness. Thats about it.

Oh - yeah I snapped about 200 shots and basically narrowed it down to 5 keepers. They beauty of digital!
