I guess every one of us remember his first “serious” knife. The one that came first when the knife bug hit us.
I made a short review on mine, old HK (Benchmade) folder, still good :)
I was 18-17 when I bought her, 20 years ago.

Feel free to share yours

My first knife of quality which would be the most important knife of my youth was my grandfathers last Victorinox classic that was in his pocket when he died fixing his flag pole.
I was probably 10 or so when my dad gave it to me, and I suppose he had finally decided I was responsible enough not to loose it.
It was wore out however so I eventually swapped it's yellow scales onto a newer hardly used one he had bought my grandmother.

I bought a Ka-Bar pocket knife for four bucks, more than twice what I had spent on a Sabre that I bought at the Katz drug store. I was just a pup and had to keep it a secret from my parents. I don't remember what happened to it, but a friend bought an exact duplicate for me a few years ago. Now that knife is one of my few safe queens.

Well, my first knife was a cub scout knife my parents got me at age 8 or 9. :D I picked up many knives over the years but I think my first "serious" knife, the one that launched me into collecting, was my Cold Steel Carbon V Trailmaster bowie. It is still (over 30 yrs later) my go to camping knife in spite of my customs and other production knives which many would wonder at my leaving home while the Trailmaster goes with me. Like my wife (she would love that comparison ), we've been through so much and there are so many associated memories, I just don't feel right "out there" without it.

:) Spyderco Police Model serrated all stainless . Far from from my first knife , but definitely the first to seriously excite my interest in a folder . EDC'd for many years .

Back in the 80's , to me, ALL the Spydercos looked very weird and different from the conventional traditional folders I grew up with . But once I got my hands on one , it just felt right .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I did take an engraving tool and make random swirls on the stainless handles to improve the grip when wet .

My first knife was a Case 6233 that my Dad gave me when I was 5. He warned me to be careful but I soon nicked a finger. Mom confiscated it. The first I bought myself was a 2 blade Schrade jack when I was about 10. I can’t remember what ever happened to the Schrade. My Mom found the little Case and gave it back when I was around 12 or 13. I still have it and get it out once in a while and look at it. It brings back lots of fond memories.

It started a long time ago with the good old Buck 110, then a cheap balisong, Ozark trail knife, etc, etc. But I think my first PM2 really got me into collecting. I still have it and use it to this day:thumbsup:

Buck 110 and Normark little swede for me and my cousin back in 76.
A few years later I had to get a super swede and I still carry that one from time to time.

The Kershaw Blur. I remember reading on another forum, everyone was talking about inexpensive blems that were really "like new" from some dealer called Kershawguy.

So it is, I began this journey.

It was a Buck 110 I got for my BarMitvah. My father stole it immediately.

After that it was either a SoG Flash2 tanto or a Kershaw Blur.

Whoa! For a moment I thought you said your BRIS. I thought "that's a heck of a knife to use for that", perhaps his Dad took it to threaten him. :( Then I got it; still don't know why he stole it; does he like you? ;)

My first "quality" knife was a Spyderco. This was after all of the years of carrying knives from Buck, Gerber, and SOG (along with multiple multi-tools or SAKs). The particular Spyderco is a Native, and I got it back when you could actually buy them at Wal-Mart. An S30v made in America Spyderco for like, $35. It's been many years since that was possible. I still have it!

First knife I remember buying was the Kershaw Whirlwind around '97.
Loved the speedsafe.
This Spring I bought a couple cases from KershawGuy for a great deal as knives to give to friends.
My tastes have come a long way, but that's still a decent knife.

I don't remember what my first real knife was but it was probably a boy scout knife as I remember I earned a tot n chip. Had to have that before you could carry a knife at a boy scout function back in the 1950's and I had one.

My cub scout knife also had a spoon and fork , but I think that was the first knife that was all MINE . :)

Gifted to me from my Grandfather and saw a lot of duty when I was a kid. Now I just let it rest and remind me on how NOT to treat a knife. Great memories though and I’m truly thankful to my Gramps for the gift that kickstarted a lifetime of knife appreciation.

Ive been playing with knives for longer than i can remember, and i dont really remember my first knife. I think it was probably a swiss army knife style thing. The first nice knife i got was an old benchmade griptillian that my stepdad gave me. I used that thing for everything, and for i carried it all the time. A couple years later i used it to cut open the bag of my grandmother's ashes when we spread them up in the mountains. That was the last time i used it, and its still just as special to me.

My first knife was probably a Case Knife. I bought the knife after grade school at a hardware store one day to protect myself from thugs.

The first serious collectors knife that I bought was a Randal Model 14 around 1992.
