Not a big fan of the 2 or 9

I know, it's shocking. A Beckerhead that is not in love, dare I say LUST, with either one. Nothing wrong with the 9, just not practical for a lot of things. The 2 and I have history. I've owned and used and then sold 2. Tried and tried again. Just too much pry bar, not enough knife.

Now, I love me some Beckers. The Tweeners are awesome, my 14 is amazing, and a BK3 under my truck seat always. Love my Machax, too. But there seems to be a cult following that seems to run with the 2 and 9 lovers. I just don't feel that love for either.

My questions:

a: Am I missing something?
b: Am I going to have my Beckerhead status revoked for this?
c: Am I going to Hell for this?
d: Will I have to sell all my Beckers and only be allowed on the CS forums from now on? (Arguably worse than Hell)

Have you tried a 10 or 7 yet? I can kind of feel ya with the 2. I like it, but If I carry it I usually wish I had just brought my 9. I can't help you with the 9 though. I can't find much I don't like about it. All I have to do is choke up on it and I can do almost anything I want. If I field dress game, I use the smaller knife I carry in the pouch.

I love the 9, but I only really carry it in winter or if I'm not.bringing an axe. I lean more toward the 4 inch blade and an axe crowd nowadays. The 2 is what drew me to Becker in the first place but I never bought one, I got the Ontario Rat 5 instead and have since sold that. In that journey I learned what works for me and its definitely not a short, thick, heavy, beast of a knife like the 2. Sorry for typos or bad punctuation, I'm on ky phone and correcting them is glitchy.

I think you may be going to hell.

Jk... have you used the 9 a lot? I find it satisfying to cut down entire forests with it. All kidding aside.... I found I liked the 10 more than the 2 if that helps any.

I've been told that by my in laws more than a few times (not with regards to knives, but oh well).
I had a 9 for about 6 months before I just found it a bit impractical. I prefer my Condor Pack Golok for chopping tasks, and smaller tasks work so much better with my BK15.
If I want a huge blade as a pry bar, my BK3 or a Condor Boomslang are just as thick with a bit more leverage, and equally adept at cutting. That's kinda why I like the 10 better, though I've never used one.

happened to me too - bought and sold two bk-2s. i really tried to like the beast but just couldn't deal with the extra weight. same goes with the other models - i found other brands/models that suited me better. i now have the bk-10 and i like it way better than the 2...i think it's the becker i'm keeping for good but time will tell.

You're not alone. While I did like the short sword characteristics of the 9 just because, when it came to general use, it was that clip that l that I didn't care for. I liked the more straightforward shape of the BK12. I really liked the 12 but rarely grabbed it over the 9 because it didn't chop as well and was just big enough to not be my first choice for a belt knife. With a lot of help, I ended up converting my 9 to what I feel is the best of both worlds and definitely something more to my liking. It fits perfectly into the more compact 5/7 sheath and still chops like it's old self.

I had to FFG my BK2 before I really liked it. But the 9, well, the 9 is something special. Maybe you just don't like big knives? I'm used to using big knives, and the 9 is incredibly versatile. If you're used to smaller knives, it takes some getting used to. But, remember, a big knife can do small knife tasks. A small knife can't do big knife tasks.

I agree with you on the 2...Not my favourite out of the line up. But the 9? What makes you like the machax but not the 9? For me its the other way around, love the 9 but the 'chax is so-so. Give the 10 or 7 a try and see what you think.

I prefer the 10 to the 2 as well. Have you ever tried a 10? Some many not have a use for a large knife. About 6 months ago I moved into the city and find myself using my larger Beckers a lot less. My knife needs/ability to carry a large blade on my hip changed.

I don't like the 2 either, make mine the 10. The 9 is great but I don't use it much.

I greatly enjoy the BK9. In fact I enjoy it so much it's my EDC and I take it everywhere with me throughout town on my belt.

I like these viewpoint threads. I am a fan of the bk2 but have never held or used a bk9, I have a 9 on order and will post thoughts when I receive it. I am seeing a lot of utility and value in the tweeners these days.

I agree 100% with you. The BK2 is a 5 inch long 1/4 inch thick knife to me its completely useless and the only reason I don't like the 9 is my Junglas does everything better.
