Not a big fan of the 2 or 9

I don't understand why people put flat sided slabs of mycarta on a tang and call that any kind of a handle. Yeah I know it works, but I also know a teeny tiny bit about the anatomy of the hand and Mr. Becker is doing it right.

well said. on every forum i've been on there's too many threads about steel type/heat treat/etc. and handle ergonomics is rarely mentioned. for me, ergos is right up there in importance...contoured handles and that downward sloping spine/handle is overlooked often.

I live in the PNW and love smoked salmon. My neighbor dislikes it. It's simply a matter of personal preference just like knives, condiments, and vehicles. If you don't see a need and aren't drawn to the #2 and #9 then that's your truth. I bought and sold a BK2. For me it was just a sharpened pry bar. If the SHTF, a massive earthquake hits my area, and the zombies come out then maybe I'll wish I kept the BK2 in my toolbox. For now, I own the BK5 and BK15 and am thrilled with both knives.

To the OP, no worries...you don't need to be a fan. But at least appreciate the design...that's really about all.

Every person needs a different knife for a different job and in some cases the 2 or the 9 will not be the tool needed. In some cases they're the perfect tool. You woudn't use a hammer when you needed a wrench would you?

I have a 2...don't have a 9...and that's sort of the point. I like my 2....but I've never really had much need of it honestly. When I have though...it was the perfect tool at the perfect time.

For the jobs I need my Beckers for, the BK14/EsKabar gets the most work followed by the BK16.

Again, just boils down to need. I think many of the Becker designs are probably some of the best out there. More often than not though and I think even Uncle Ethan would agree...for most jobs a smaller knife is all that's needed.
