Not a BWM LE, But Still Sweet

purty purty and nasty sharp I'm sure!

Was just thinking about you this morning HD, hadn't seen you posting much the last week or so.

I have been very busy with my daughters. Got the 16 year old a used Mustang, got her drivers license, preparing the 19 yr old for AF Basic Training (it's longer and harder than it used to be). Just busy, that's all. Took the morning off and did some grinding.

Cobalt did this SHBM by hand. Eight hours worth of work.

Not me, but some can. The best I have ever seen was some guy in Scotland who did it all by hand, but I think that was a Swamp Rat in SR101.

you talking about SoupMonger? He also modded and satin finished a SS with blue/black scales that was a beaut too.

That's some fantastic looking INFI, HD!

I've got a question that may be elementary, but do you take the platen off of your sander to do that, or just sand above it?

He did an FFBM, Batac and ASH as well. I did a search on his posts, they were great looking. He also went lengthwise of the blade, not with the grind marks.

The only time I use the platen is for sanding the flat ricasso or pommel. Since I do not remove the scales on Busses, I did not sand those parts, but just brushed them, dimples and all. So the whole job was done with the platen removed. The added flex of the belt gives me the convex shape I want. This knife is far from the perfection of a true LE model. It's a stripped and convexed user.
Here you can see the flaw in the blade surface that I did not grind out.

Here you see the INFI dimples are left just brushed on the ricasso:

But overall, I am still pleased with it. It is meant to be a user, after all.

Lookin' good HD!

Sorry if it's been posted already, but how thin did the satin finish make her?

I don't know exactly. I don't have a micrometer or calipers. A little thinner. It's still about 3/16" on my official wooden school ruler.
