Not a knife, but I think it's cool... Name it and I'll give you one...

I hear ya on the MANY craft sodas now available and packed in bottles, but even there the last one I had was maybe 2 years ago. It just seems to me this should go to someone who will regularly use it. (the younger party animals, if you will)

By the way, if you offered a slightly thinner version with rounded edges, (and maybe a smaller and less beveled hole).....you might have a popular "pendant"! Also might need a bit more length, without the leverage of the key ring to pull against?)

....it's small anyway, so maybe the "BudAnt"

It's a weird little area you get into with these tiny things. There's small and then there's too small. As stated the mini version I made for a close friend at his request takes a little more finger strength to work than at least the wife liked to muster up. For us guys who use our hands a lot it's no problem, but for dainty types it is. Same with thickness. I found 1/4" thick seems to be about as thin as I'd want to go.

But you may have something there and I'll have to make a couple and see how they do.

I think the final edit when I start selling a few of these is going to be in the middle of the tiny and the original version, and about a 'fat 1/4"' thick. (9/32"-5/16")

Same big hole as it's been discovered to really make it not stand out amongst your keys. I've been carrying mine for a while now and it is totally unobtrusive.

Pretty proud of this one especially since it was made during a 'piddle and dink session' as my wife calls them. Those times when I was just supposed to go to the shop to feed the dog or find a screwdriver but wind up in there for 3 hours... Sound familiar gents? But as always I'm open to suggestions. This last run of 'Brewtals' is an example of the great input I get from here. I think that one os finally perfected as much as can be... (Hence why I offer a discounted price here too...)

Cheers.
Thanks guys. One hour left!!

Along the pendant idea,.....this shapely leg design (recent ebay offering for an old novelty knife) certainly has the leverage necessary for opening up a stubborn cap. Made up as a pendant about 1-1/2 inches to 1-3/4 inches long, should work well.

The shape would of course appeal to the men more than the gals. :) , and the tip of the toes should be able to lift the tabs on cans.

A hole can be drilled at the thigh area to attach a split ring similar to a key ring, so it would hang "right" on a chain.

A larger hole drilled straight thru would also work to allow a chain or cord to pass thru (leather "thong", perhaps? ;) ) , but it would hang side-out. (heal out most comfortable I'd think)

....and I think made in Titanium (immune to the elements) a great choice for a pendant, maybe call the pendent version "The KneeHigh" for obvious reasons. (remember the Nehi beverage made from 1924 onward? I believe it's still sold and pronounced the same)

Somebody elses name "Cankle" a good fit here too.

Joe, I came up with an idea stemming from your pendant idea there and will be tinkering with it shortly... Should be neat. I'll give you credit if it pans out... (fame and notoriety etc etc etc) lol.
Be cautious with this name because I think maker Jared Price has a tool named "toucan" and it is also in mass production by Boker. Just a heads up.
Yes, Toucan is very taken and patented. (Well the tool is patented, the name is TM'd.) They're a great little tool of their own BTW. I had one on my duty bag untill earlier this year. Sold it to a new recruit...

If that's the case I'm really surprised, considering "Toucan" is a bird and the name predates the tool of the same name.

I honestly meant copyright instead of TM. A TM can be registered if it is unique or applied in a unique way. Copyright can be applied to the use of a name. But it's really hard to defend. Like I could call mine the Toucan but boker could sue saying I was reaping the rewards of their notoriety.

At least that's how I understand it.

The winner of the naming contest, the person who has my utmost gratitude and to whom all praise and fame should go is:
JoeTheJeweler with his submission of: The Hooker!

But alas Joe has chosen to pay it forward. Thus the newly dubbed titanium 'Hooker' in the size of his choice shall go to:
Whizdumb for his runner up submission of 'The Can-kle'

I enjoyed this thoroughly and it was a daily source of at least a laugh or two. Thank you all so much. Extremely talented bunch of people here with great creative thinking in the naming department...

Whizdumb please email me at EricLucycustomknives@gmail.com to arrange for collection of your rewards!

Joe please email me as well. I will at the very least send you a die-cut Overmountain decal. You can stick it on your car, fridge, toolbox, w/e. You deserve something to signify your outstanding victory!!

Cheers!

I feel honored to have "The Hooker" name chosen to represent your new Model, and pleased that Whizdom and the also worthy "Can-kle" will enjoy the end result of all this fun. I must say that "Brewskey" deserves an honorable mention as well,......that was a winner too in my mind. Too many others could also have been worthy to name this tool.

Whizdom,....on your first brew with "The Hooker" tip your glass (or bottle), and I'll be smiling. :)

cheers,
Joe T

I am eternally grateful for your gratitude.. I'll post pictures when I get this Hooker and share a beer with you buddy.

There truly were so many good names it was a very hard decision.

We had to pare it down several times to get to a list of the top five... Then from there we started with random friends. Showed them the 'hooker' then read off the names. We asked them to all vote and 'The Hooker' won. We read many of the names to friends and family as well this evening, and it was truly a riot. Thanks everyone for that.

Congrats to Whizdom and JoeJeweler! Cheers to you all. Opened a Killian's Irish Stout with the newly dubbed 'Hooker' just to make it official of course. This is truly a professional event and I will not derive any enjoyment from this brew...

Bwah, ha ha... yeah...

UPDATE:

Maybe a little premature to 'introduce' a new model... But upon a close friend's request, I made an even smaller model. This is at the bleeding edge of what will funtionally open a bottle, but it does work.

If it garners much attention, I may do both sizes when it 'drops.' It takes a bit of oomph to open a bottle with it, but it surely is unobtrusive.

Here it is.

Let me know the consensus about this one. Hoping the original is a hit. Thank you guys for the compliments. Excited about offering this one up.

Cheers!

Well,...I must say I was quite elated today when I got home, and found that Eric had arranged for a HOOKER for be waiting for me! ("The Hooker", to be exact. :D )

Although initially I had passed on actually receiving one, (since I don't buy a lot of bottles using the pop top system), I have to admit she IS a cute little bugger!

I guess NOW I'll just have to begin buying bottles again, just to make use of this smile inducing opener. Hookers can do that to ya,..... ;)

I'm not sure if this is the original size, or the slightly smaller version he was working on. (The Asian Hooker, perhaps?) :)

Additionally, there was a "Brewtal" Bottle opener/Knuckle Duster that came with "The Hooker",.....(HEY, She needed protection! :-), as well as a couple of doubled split rings for attaching to a key ring. One of his shop "Overmountain Knife and Tool" stickers rounded out my early Christmas........

......thank you Eric, most generous and much appreciated.

cheers,
Joe T

Joe, I couldn't let it weigh on my conscience that the guy who named it wouldn't have one... I also sent one to WhizDumb. In his defense he tried to pay for yours to pay it in reverse... but I couldn't let that happen either.... lol. Size wise, this is the version I will be putting out soon. It falls between the two, and after some use it seems to be the best overall size I think...

It turns out I'm going to be using his name submission of 'The Can-kle' for something new I'm piddling with, so I felt like you both deserved it...

This forum is one of the few places left where this kind seems to be the rule, not the exception. I have seen enough giving, kindness, and good old fashioned 'paying it forward' here to negate a lot of the salt I've picked up over the last decade in my day job.

You'll note my website is updated with naming credit fully attributed to you there also Joe. Should it make a mint, I'll not only break you off a piece, I will arrange for everyone here (at least in the sub-forum... don't tell the other guys...) to have one on the house...

Cheers.
Thank you to everyone that provided an entry. The most fun I've had on the internet (without scrubbing my browser afterwards) in a long time.

Just to finish off this thread I guess... here are the two 'Hookers' that went to the winners. Final shape/fit and finish I will start offering. It falls between the two sizes I did previously ans measure about 1/2"x1"x9/32"... Weighs next to nothing.

Should have a few listed on the exchange by Tuesday provided I don't have continued day job pressure this week.

I was excited to have a Hooker waiting for me when I got home. I too received a brewtal, keyrings and overmountain sticker. Needless to say Eric is a top-notch guy and really went out of his way to make me feel a bit special. I haven't had a chance to get an action shot with it yet, but as soon as I can I'll post a picture and share a brew with all of my friends here on bladeforums.

CHEERS!

Whizdumb

PS Eric.. Thank you kind Sir. You're definitely one of the good guys.
