Not a knife (still a blade though)

Got a full length of practically brand new band saw blade from work, had snapped so they junked it (got another one too recently), and figure why waste it on damascus :p , I would make it into HMM WHAT ELSE? A saw:D. These saws cut on the pull stroke, I like them better than cutting on the push stroke.

Wow, I both hate nd love to say it, but...

What an original idea!

Using sawblade steel for, well... A SAW

Who'da thunk it?

I love it!

Very nice work, It reminds me of an old world carpenter's saw. Did you spring temper the base of the blade?

Thanks guys!

Dan, it was one of those *smack self over the head DUHR* moments for me hehe.

Keith, no I didn't (or didn't mean to), that was from when I "tried" to normalise/anneal it to drill, I ended up taking the plasma cutter to it to blast some holes then got em a bit to size with a drill bit. No NEED to spring temper this stuff, you can bend it around into a circle and it springs back no problem. you can flush cut a dowel pin by holding and working the handle at a 45 degree angle, and just slide the saw along the surface of the beam.

Cadillac, I gave it to my Ma to use, she is a gardener and will use it HARD, give some good feedback. It cuts like a laser, the teeth are very agressive, and it is able to cut metal without wearing out too bad so it should handle years of cutting wood no problem.

Sam, Just sheeps foot the end and make a sheath for it. We make these for big and small game saws. The hunters gobble them up.

Never thought of a garden tool. nice idea.

That is a cool Idea. I also agree with cutting on the pull I think you get more strength in it that way.

Thanks guys. Jim, that is a great idea, I am not much of a hunter so immediately though gardening/pruning saw :) .

Dan, it sure could, takes a mean wicked sharp tough edge even for such thin material too.

Larry, I hate pushsaws cause they always bind and then you get that flop-boing where the handle goes forward but the blade doesn't move hehe.

Thats a terrific idea Sam. I've got a bunch of that stuff just lying around. Looks like a mothers day present to me:D Looks like it'd be handy around the shop too.
Ed

Knife saws are better on the pull (more force applied without having to worry about flex).
Arc saws are better on the push (ore force applied using full body weight if necessary).
Nice tool you got there.
Seems much like a japanese scabbard maker saw.
