Well, after hearing several people say goods things about RR knives, for the price point at least I thought I'd try one. To say the least I'm impressed! No wobble in any blade, nice strong springs and pretty good fit and finish all around.

After sharpening it up I tried it out on some poplar, after all of these the sheeps foot blade still sliced paper and got a few arm hairs:thumbup:

Not a bad way to spend $10 imo :)

Nice pictures:thumbup:

I picked up a couple of Steel Warriors (I believe they’re made by RR but I could be wrong) a little while back; like you, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality/fit and finish. Great bang for buck!

My only complaint with any of them (SW, RR, Marbles) has been the grit in the joints, which I wash out with dish soap & warm water, then blow out with canned air; a drop of oil usually smooths things out real nice. Other than that, for $10-$15., I think they're great deals.

I think I posted in the last thread involving the Rough Rider brand knives. I tried a tiny little $7.00 2-blade quill knife for starters and it was very nice. So, after my wife "got" it, I ordered a full sized Texas Toothpick pattern. Fluted bolsters, saw cut brown bone scales, brass pins & liners, very nice fit & finish, it's a nice knife. I bought it from SMKW for $12.99, shipped. My best friend "got" it last night, so I'm back in the hunt.

Nice pixs. Is that boned?......razor sharp out of the box?

The handles are orange smooth bone, and no it wasn't sharp out of the box, but I always sharpen them any way. The blades are pretty thick so It took a little while to thin them down but not to bad.

Thanks for the comments guys! Now I'm thinking about a congress haha

Try the Gunstock series in green or brown chequered bone. A move up in quality and they have thinner 440 blades. The Peanut, Mini Trapper & Copperhead knives I have have been very useful&well-made. Good value for sure:thumbup:

Check out the Deluxe Congress in black pearl. That's about the top of the RR line at around $20.00.

Thats pretty nice! I may pik up another one, I'll see how this one holds up. I've still got a Victorinox pioneer harvester in the mail, can't wait hehe:D

very nice. i've handled a few and they are well worth the price. Just hate that they're made in china.

Curisosity got the better of me so I bought one of these with the white pearl scales. I got it on Ebay for $11.00 plus shipping ( total was $17 with insurance).

The first thing I noticed was the way it was packed, it came in a leatherette covered, Velvet lined hard case. The knife itself is over 4" closed and pretty heavy ( almost too heavy). It has a thick brass frame, the center divider is brass too.

I showed the knife , still in its box to my wife. I asked her how much she thought I paid for it. Without hesitation she said $75.00.

The overall F&F is pretty good and the blades are shaving sharp. But the blades do make contact with each other when opening and closing. This is my first 4 blade congress so I don't know how it compares to a more expensive knife. The quality is not as good as various patterns made by Case, Queen or S&M in my collection, but it will give some buyers the opportunity to own a nice knife without spending a fortune.

I am waiting for a smooth orange stockman and a brown gunstock bone canoe to arrive. If they are as nice in person as they look in pics, I will be really pleased with my $25.00 total cost.

How do they compare to the Steel Warrior knives? I think they are made by the same company. I have a SW trapper which is nice, but seems kind of clunky, that may be due to the large trapper pattern, though.

I have the exact same knife in green bone. I've been pretty impressed for ten bucks also. I plan to buy more. I also have had good luck with steel warriors.

I bought a few a couple years ago out of curiosity for my boys to use. They are a nice price for sure. They never used them much (different intersts). The guy that I bought them from has made a decent business selling them. With free shipping he lists at least several hundred at a time(not sure how many days a week), and sells them with no reserve, low start and they look like they end up at $5.00 - $10.00 or so. Most of them sell. Almost 7000 sales and a 99.4% rating. A guy could fill up a color knife roll for not much money. Good grief, what must he buy them for?

I have three of the Rough Riders, and I have been very impressed with them. Like most, I'm not thrilled that they're made in China, but then that's why they are so inexpensive, right? I have a theory that they are made in a few different factories over there, and the quality varies from place to place. The gunstock series seems to be a little better than the other one I have, but overall nice knives for the price!

There is one they make they call a treebark pearl whittler. I might get one for a birthday present, just to see what it looks like.

When I worked at a hardware distributor, we had a line of hardware brought in from China, simply because all of our competition was doing the same. I know from experience that there are some really good manufacturers over there, and I think Jim Frost (SW) and Kevin Pipes (RR) have found a couple of them, or maybe the same mfr. makes both lines for them. Either way, for the price point they're great deals.

I've got a pearl handled RR Canoe on the way from Bob Tice Knives and I can't wait to see it.

Is the entire line done in 440A? They sure do make some nice looking knives.

The tang on a large RR stockman I have with me, is stamped "440 Razor Sharp Steel",so I guess it's probably 440a.

I use the master blade on this particular knife almost everyday at work for cutting my food at lunchtime. The blade gets a quick touch up on a steel once or twice a month to bring it back to shaving sharp. Only once in the year that I've used it, I gave it a few strokes on a ceramic rod.
