Not bad for less than $10!

When my Dad saw my pearl congress his first guess was Case, then one of the German makers, couldn't believe it was a 10 buck knife. In the case of the pawnbroker someone was definitely scamming somebody, the china tag on the blade should have been a giveaway. If it wasn't there then someone made a pretty good effort to remove it completely.

Damn You guys are costing me a fortune!!I just read this, then went on ebay & picked up a RR stockman redbone handled for 9.99 + free shipping!!I gotta stop reading about all these good deals.:D

Here's a few of my RR's ,plus a S&W in ram's horn and a Steel Warrior in stag.
My favorite is the stockman with the black pearl scales.

I bought the congress knife a few weeks ago. It was $10.71 plus shipping.

it is surprising how well they are made. We sell bunchs at the gunshows. Folks love them, several guys tell me that they buy Case and rough riders, one to collect and cherish, one to use and if its lost, oh well, buy another.
they are solid indeed. paul

These damn things are like Lay's Potato Chips...can't stop with just one....or two or three...lol. Most of these will be used as gifts but a couple I like and will hang onto like the Wildcat Driller, Sunfish, and the Bark Pearl Barlow. Or maybe a couple others...why should I give any of them away....who has bought me a knife lately....they just want my things...my precious...

I agree with the potato chips comment! These are fun because they don't break the bank, and the fit and finish on most are pretty good.

These knives are beautiful. I'm probably going to get one off of SMKW. They're so cheap that there's no reason not to. Does anyone know the URL of Rough Rider's official website? I'm having a hard time finding it. Thanks.

I don't think Rough Rider has any meaningful official website. I do recall a year or two ago a site that was basically contact info for dealers. No model listings. I think they were imported by SMKW, but I could be wrong about that.

I read somewhere that Kevin Pipes (SMKW) introduced the Rough Rider brand to bring in a lot of the old patterns that were either discontinued, or far too expensive for the average guy to afford. Jim Frost - Steel Warrior - same kind of situation, I think.

I love the idea; great way to check out the old patterns, and not ruin our old collectible treasures.

Loved the Golum analogy (Absintheur). My wife would totally agree with that, where my knives & me are concerned.

thx - cpr

I have been buying mine from another retailer www.waxmanknifeworks.com/ which seems to have one of the larger selections.

Thanks for that! :p Here I am, trying to clear stuff out and raise money to buy guns and you have to go and post that... :D

Now I have a Rough Rider Gunstock with Jigged Bone Handles, Work Knife with Black Micarta Handles, Razor Jack and Razor Trapper with Imitation Tortoise Handles all en route. $31.55 for the lot shipped!

Now the gunfund is separate from the knife fund...I do have priorities as well...lol. This was just piddling around cash for the Rough Riders however, the knife fund is about ready to purchase something I have wanted for sometime... a Chris Reeve one piece.

The gunfund is waiting for a S&W Model 22 Classic to go with my other 45s.

Gunfund!!!!
I called it Reserve Duty

I paided with 5 of my weeks a year.
Then I would be give a gun

Keep supporting these Chinese made knives guys, good job. Sing the praises!

Now go pick up a Schrade Old Timer made in
Carbon Steel - Oh, wait, that all went away.

OK, no problem, good grab a new Camillus - Oh, hold on.....

:grumpy:

Enough already. Buy 'em if you like em' but I'll pass.

You do realize that of the money spent on these Chinese about 65% remains in the US don't you or haven't you have basic economics in school yet? But to make you feel better I would have to buy 30 of these to equal my Benchmade Boguszewski Spike, 30 more to equal my Benchmark Rolox,60-70 to equal my Jimmy Lile, and probably somewhere between 300-400 more to equal the remainder of my Randells, Cases, Cold Steels, Al Mars, Gerbers, Remingtons, Westerns, Shrades, Camillus, Ka-Bars, Lone Wolfs, Sid Birts, etc. The Chris Reeve I am ordering would equal 25 more of them alone.

Before you question someone's loyalty to their country you should know something about them first....and yes, I am a Vet!

Schrade and Camillus never did any favors for me. Why should I have provided them welfare, when their operations were shaky enough as to be unsustainable?

Rewarding good manufacturers by buying their products is ultimately the best way to ensure we all get the best products for the lowest prices. When Rough Rider knives no longer represent a good value, they'll go under, too. Until then, I welcome their offerings to the market.

Ok, mine arrived yesterday and I am impressed. They all were shaving sharp (some shaved smoother than others) out of the box, all have good springs, good fit and finish and no obvious manufacturing flaws. Sorry the pictures are a bit rushed. They don't really do the Faux-Tortoise justice. It has a nice depth to it.

Here's a group shot of them all (except for the Gunstock that I forgot in my back pocket). Peanut, Whittler, Razor Jack, Razor Trapper and 'Work Knife'.

The Work Knife is essentially a liner lock Sodbuster. The backspring is STOUT! It is quite a bit thinner than the Sodbuster, so it carries in the pocket better, but does not feel as good in the hand.

I have found most Soddie copies to be thinner than the Case, not sure why unless it is a cost issue. I like the thicker Case the best personally but still like and admire other manufactures offerings

I bought a bone-handled RR peanut for $6.99 shipped, and have been really pleased with it. I'm probably going to give it to a younger cousin (who lost her SAK) after I get back to the US.

I think these knives make great gifts for NKPs. They're cheap enough to gift frequently, decently made, attractive, etc.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a bulk lot of these and handing them out as gifts for the next few years. I figure if I buy a gross of them the price per knife has got to be really dang low. I checked with Smokey Mountain, and they won't wholesale to individuals, but I believe that the Home Shopping/Cutlery Cove folks will sell their "Steel Warrior" line of slipjoints in bulk to individuals. I'm led to believe that SW is only a step below RR (speaking of their slipjoints, not all their tacticool knives and lockbacks).
