Not buying the FRN Ladybug 3

I know that from a business standpoint, it probably makes sense to unload as many knives as possible before introducing the really good premium knives such as the Stainless handled, non-serrated Ladybug 3, but as a consumer, I'm just going to have to wait this one out. No sense getting something now that there will only be a much better version of later. I hope that other potential customers doing the same thing don't make the wait even longer.

Ahh... if I'm reading you right, you want a non-serrated Ladybug 3? If so, according to the catalogue, the SS version is available in both PE and SE.

Or, I could be reading this whole thing wrong.

Think he's just viewing the fact that the FRN version of the Ladybug 3 hit the streets before the all stainless version as some kind of plot by Spyderco to get people to purchase both. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but it does pay to keep in mind that this is the same person who pitched a bitch because one of the most respected knife dealers on the internet chooses to flag items as "out of stock" rather than removing them totally from their website. ;)

Very close- but I would use the words "clever marketing" instead of "plot", but well read just the same.

It's a better version in your opinion. Spyderco introduced them both at the same time (2007 catalog), so what point are you trying to make? Nobody is forcing you (or anyone else) to buy the FRN version if that's your point?

I would never buy the SS model, so not a problem for me.

The frn ladybug was my very first spyderco, it had me at hello!

Wow, just when the ridiculous "Sprint run price gouging" thread has faded out, here comes another bit of absurdity to take its place.

Have you ever stopped to think that perhaps some people may actually prefer the FRN or SE version? Since when does a SS PE model constitute "premium", or a "much better version"?

I'm not sure about the point of this post.
What are you saying that Spyderco is "unloading"?
Wouldn't you expect any manufacturer to want to sell what stock they have in inventory?
I also don't know what you mean by "clever marketing", I have not seen anything "pushing" the previous models of Ladybugs.

Old inventory.

Yup. Why I said in my original post, "...from a business standpoint, it probably makes sense"
I also don't know what you mean by "clever marketing", I have not seen anything "pushing" the previous models of Ladybugs.
I retrospect, I think "clever marketing" was a poor choice of words on my part. I should have just said "marketing strategy", or just "marketing."

Yes, I do! You've got it right, except for the "is available" part.

I also believe that Sal is deeply invested in the band-aid industry, and that the only real reason spyderco makes very sharp knives ....
Arnon ;)

Hi Jedi,

We ship them when we get them or make them. If one comes in before another or is built before anotehr, it gets shipped first.

I believe we are shipping all versions of the ladybug3.

Old inventory is long gone.
