first off, let me start out by saying i love road treasures...:D i have found some very useful, cool and obscure stuff along the side of the roads... some friends and I used to have contests on long road trips, to see who had the coolest find... i think this has got to be one of the coolest and most obscure by far.....:o

yesterday afternoon, i dropped my son off at school and then started on my way to visit a sick friend... as soon as i pulled out into center lane to wait my turn, i immediately noticed something in the road.. as soon as it was clear, i pulled right off the road, got out and started jog back down to where i came from... there were no cars coming so i ran out into the center lane and just as i thought it was...
it was a nice big ol' cleaver...:eek: (it wasn't terribly dirty :o) i quickly swooped it up and walked back to my car.. i wrapped it up in and proceeded on my way...

i didn't get a chance to inspect it until i got back home... it appears to be pretty old... the wood handle slabs are there, but are in poor shape... the blade definitely needs to cleaned and sharpened... it is German made and has a few stamps on it... i have always loved these old cleavers and have drooled over many pics of them here on the WSS, in the past..it'll make a cool project and will probably clean up nicely...:)

that thought did cross my mind, but it was a chance i was willing to take, seeing how it was across te street from an elemntary school and all.. i would rather me find it :D than some wiley kids or possibly have it damage a car or something. :)

the friend i went to visit, who is very ill...got a kick out of it, she knows i love knives, and she was claming that the universe was bringing me knives...:o

That's just a great find. I still have a nice 16 oz. hammer that I found one time along the side of the road. It was a bit rusty but cleaned up nice. I'm sure your cleaver will do the same.

Seriously though, cool find. Looks like it could use reprofiling, re-handling, and a nice new patina, which could make for a fun summer project.

That was a SWEET find!

The only knife I have found (on the road) was a Kobalt folding razor...

It was In my neighborhood and open.
 
Very nice find....congrats!
I'd re-handle it and use it for awhile before I started reprofiling it. Who knows, you may like it just fine the way it is.
I just got done reprofiling a cleaver...I had to buy mine though, I'm not lucky like you.
 
Nice find bro - that's a sick cleaver you've got there! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
 
That is an awesome find. The universe has a habit of bringing me toy dinosaurs, via the road. I have 3 already
