Not exactly a knife, but it cuts quite well...

I don't know about you guys, but it seems like I'm always finding an excuse to use a pair of scissors, but the fold out scissors on my multitool aren't always up to the task. That said, your typical kitchen/desk drawer scissors are a little on the big side to be EDC'd, so I decided to make something somewhere in the middle: small enough to carry, but stout enough to cut more than just paper and string.

I ended up going with a design that was reminiscent of some Japanese scissors I've seen. They're also slightly inspired by some old style wool shears I've seen here and there.

Below is my first iteration/prototype. I used some 1/8" thick 1095 high carbon steel I had laying around, and a 3/16" pivot and roller bearing from Alpha Knife Supply for the hardware. I also made my own spring using some "music wire". Overall, I've very happy with how they turned out, and even more so with how they work. Zips right through paracord, weed eater line, and even some lighter gauge electrical wire, no problems. The spring and bearing give them a very smooth action as well.
