This is a knife I have been wanting to make for myself for several years. I have been thinking about doming the pivot pen to strengthen the knife and finally took time to try it out. I need to thank Tony Bose for the pattern for this 4" Serpentine Trapper and his willingness to help me. Constructive comments would be appreciated about the doming of the pens.

That is a great looking knife Rick.
Knives should be made to use, and that one looks like it do some heavy work. If doming the pivot pin makes it stronger, then it's a good idea. It might be "prettier" without it, but it looks just fine to me with it.

IMHO- I prefer that the pivot pin does not show. To me, that knife looks repaired. Remember that I am a noob, so just giving my impression. I really like the design of that pattern and the scales are beautiful. The groove (flute?) in the bolster works great for me too. The way it meets the scale makes for a great transition. Great looking style you have there.

Sweeeet! I like the domed pin. Seems perfectly matched to the pin in the rear.
Congrats,
Jim

I personally really like the look. It looks like a very tough and durable knife made to be used and still look good.

I don't think it would like right on all knives, but to me it really fits on that particular knife.
It is deliberate and IMO adds a touch to the knife that makes it appear older...

Very nice

pin show and domed pivot pins are two different things...when someone tries to hide the pin and it still shows , that too me doesn't look right.

The way you did this one Rick , I think it looks right , and I like it. Nice work....

Agreed JW.. I had to go back and delete that statement , it didn't come out the way I intended... I seem to be doing that a lot lately

Rick ,it looks really good.A lot better than I'da thought. You did it nice.
Not for me,but it makes plain sense,if you keep & use it,being a knifemaker you can "adjust" it,if needed
That is a killer knife!

Rick,I think it comes down to preference. I agree with cj65, I like the pattern not the pins.
Here again I'm a newbie so my opinion might be what I like vs what works.I do know from personal experience the knifes you do make are nothing but top shelf.I hope I didn't
ruffle your feathers just giving an opinion. BBM

Nice one Rick.. I think Case made a 65 pattern for Florida Fish and Game with domed pins out of stainless for the strength.... If the knife was made for that purpose, I think it's fine...

No question this is stronger. Theyre are many advantages to this. I make knifes because i like it and i have no problem with doing it with hiden pins and will keep doing this. That being said when someone spends 3 or 4 hundred dollars they deserve to have something better than what the normally would get. I know this is better. It will not be for everyone but i like it. This will be done on custom orders if they they ask in the future
