I recently decided I wanted another Custom made knife. I became enchanted with Chute knives and bought a couple but they still did'nt do it. I decided to design my "be all knife". I wanted something at least as useful doing meaningful chores as fighting.

It should be comfortable in a number of grips and stout enough to take some abuse while at the same time not being to much to carry or to unwieldy to use.

Ricky fowler agreed to take the job. He did another knife for me from a drawing (the Persian on my Show and Tell page) and I knew he would do a good and accurate job.

After recieving it ... it just didnt fit well in my hand and I thought ... well .. I thought it was a bit to ugly as well. Hey but I designed it and speced every measurment. Ricky did a great job !!

I wanted a hard use knife and didnt think I wanted to carry a full 1/4 inch o steel but between the handle being to big for my hand and really uncomfortable and it being butt ugly I was about to sell it. But I loved the blade shape and possible utility. Well I took out the grinders and files and sandpaper and went to work. Here it is let me know what you think. My Custom custom

Great work, Alex, and exceptionally well documented to boot!

Nice knife. A little thick in a blade that small for my taste. It looks too small to be a chopper, but is thick like one might be. Can understand the simple handle, I like that, but also seems too short for long comfortable work unless you have your finger in the choil. Otherwise, I like a handle that fills my hand a bit all the way across. Reminds me a bit of the British Mod-4 though smaller. Eye catching design though, and your pictures are beautiful.

I agree with you on the thickness matthew. I could have gotten away with 5/32 and been very happy. I wanted a little prying ability so I went for the thicker stock but if I did it over 5/32 would be my call. I havent done a lot of chopping with it to see if the handle is comfy over time but I did hack a 2x3 in half just to see if it could do it. Performed admirably. I like the slightly shorter handle on a part time possible defensive tool because I like being able to kind of palm it for hard stabbing motions. Again a little versitility. When you try and make it do everything some things it does only OK. I would probably go an extra 1/4 inch on the handle.

Thanks for the comments. Keep em comin. Maybe my third knife project will be this one incorporating those changes.

very nice. i love what you've done! not only does it feel better (which you have assured us it does), but it looks so classy now. the dark finish on the scales offsets the steel nicely, and the narrower portion of the handle accents the guard and blade shape.
wow.

Very nice. Knives that you design yourself, with the help of a great maker, are always great.

You are a brave man!
Great job too.
Maybe a future knife maker?
Thanx for sharing
