 I waited for almost a week to win the auction for an Al Mar Shrike and after I won it, the seller tells me that it will take a month to ship because the Shrike is back ordered! WTF? How can you auction off a knife that you don't even have? I paid via PayPal and then three days later, I get a e-mail telling me that he doesn't have the knife he is selling! I hope that I am not charged a fee from PayPal to get my own money back in my refund. that would just be the topper!

The good news is, now I can buy another knife. I liked the Shrike but it wasn't 100% what I had in mind. I prefer Wharncliff or almost Wharncliff style flat ground blades. The Shrike was upswept and I don't think it was flat ground. I am on the hunt for something similar. Anyone have any ideas? William Henry, AL Mar, Caffrey, Benchmade and Spyderco all make knives that I like.

Definitely leave appropriate feedback so no one else goes through the same thing. Sounds quite dishonest to me...

Yeah, I've heard of "dealers" selling stuff for incredibly low prices but they don't have the knife. They sell it then they go looking for one to fill the order. Get your $$$ back and buy from a reliable dealer (1SKS or New Graham for instance) even if it costs a little more.

I've never dealt with it, but I have heard enough horror stories that I would hesitate to deal with E-Bay.

You have to be careful about leaving negative feedback on ebay. A lot of sellers use retaliatory negative feedback as a way to keep from getting negative feeback themselves. If you don't mind that this might happen then go ahead.

If the seller was "NicePrice" you got scammed. He goes by Frank Martinez and scammed me out of money for a watch that never delivered....just a bunch of BS reasons.

Can you tell us the name of this particular seller?

Also, you might want to contact Ebay themselves about this particular seller's listing practices... a couple of complaints could get them suspended.

Update.

The seller "jlsnyde39" has responded to my request for a full refund with a message that states that his supplier has shipped the knife out on Tuesday. He takes serveral days to respond to a e-mail and everytime I seem to get conflicting answers. I asked for a tracking number and he e-mails me back and acts all mad and says that the tracking number was in the last e-mail he sent me and I need to read my e-mails better. I go back and re-read all my e-mails from him and I can't find a tracking number anywhere so I think he is full of it.

He has sent me another e-mail with a tracking number so I think that the knife may be on the way since it was shipped via a third party in FL. Maybe I will get the knife like he says but red flags are waving all over the place and all I can do now is wait until the package arrives to see what is in it. If it is not my knife, I am going after him full bore. Since I paid via PayPal, I should have recourse and I think I can have PayPal take the money out of his bank account if needed.

I don't think there is anything else I can do until the package arrives. If it contains my knife, I will be both surprised and happy.

It sounds like the snide Mr. Snyde may just be hustling, trying for a fast buck, wheeling & dealing, and leaving customers wondering. Don't let it get to you. Like they say, don't get mad, get even ... except, he probably means well, and just has a different standard of what's good business practice. Wait on the knife and let us know how it goes. Don't let it ruin your day -- unless it IS a scam, THEN go for the throat :D

There are alot of ebayers that deal in that manner. It's not a good practice, because you can get caught with your shorts down. How it works is you win the auction and then the dealer has the product shipped direct from the distributor, usually shipped the same day.Moteng has this program in place. You would have your item pronto if it is in stock at the distributor. It is in most cases, but sometimes they run out,and then this type of situation occurs. It's the home grown dealer that just tries to make a few bucks and doesn't have to have inventory or even get involved in the shipping aspect. All works good, unless the item gets out of stock from the time the auction starts and ends.Either way,it is a problem waiting to happen. If a ebayer operates this way,he should put a clause in the auction to say on occasion there can be a delay in shipping, items are drop shipped from the distributor direct. Then at least you know in advance that to save a few bucks you may run into a delay.Take Care and good luck.

Also, You don't want to wait past 30 days to file for a refund with paypal. If you haven't received your knife or refund before the 30 days are up, Go ahead and file the complaint with paypal. You can always go back and cancel the complaint, But it has to filed before 30 days are up. Plus, Once the seller gets contacted by paypal , They will usually realize the buyer is going to follow thru with their complaint, And it might persuade them to resolve the issue.Good luck-

If it helps, the largest knife distributor in the country has it in stock, so he could order one tomorrow.

I think the problem really relates to pricing. New production knives often don't sell on Ebay above dealer cost so selling them on Ebay is a money losing proposition for the most part. Perhaps this seller gives it a shot and, if the price comes in below cost, then he does what he can to dissuade the buyer from completing the deal. It's just a guess. I can't figure out why dealers sell current production knives on ebay and this scenario at least is an explanation that I would believe. It is bad business, though. Hope everything works out.

The seller only has 5 feedbacks so I guess I was taking my chances from the start. The main problem is, he takes several days to respond to my e-mails. It makes me uneasy and so far his responses have left me scratching my head. Many things don't seem right but all I can do right now is wait for the package to arrive.

If I had known that the seller was a drop shipper and not the owner of the products that he is selling, I would have just ordered from one of the knife companies that I have been refered to. I tried to save a few bucks and I am paying for it. Every other dealer has the Shrike for about $125 but this guy had it for $99.50. He charges $12.35 for shipping but I figuired I was still saving some money. I wish I had just bought from a real online store and not some joker with a computer.

There you have it. He is selling it for cost and hoping to make a few bucks for weekend beer money from the shipping charge. I guess there are all kinds of them willing to give it a try. Ah, the lure of instant riches!

Still waiting on the knife! The UPS tracking system says that a package is in route but I don't know where it is supposed to be delivered to. There is no address on the tracking system. If I don't get this knife in a day or two, I am going to go ahead and believe that he scammed me.

I went to a gun and knife show this weekend and they had the Al Mar Shrike as well as some of the other Al Mars. The Shrike was $125! I wish I could have just bought it at the gun show but I supposedly have one comming to me soon.

The good news is, after handling the Shrike again, I like it more than ever. When I get it, I am going to be very happy I am sure.

I finally got my knife. I will never buy from that seller again I doubt I will buy off E-bay unless the seller has plenty of good feedback.

On the plus side, the Shrike is outstanding! It isn't a factory second or anything like I feared. It just drips quality! What a fine knife! I am super pleased with the knife.

Thanks for listening to my tale of woe. Maybe it will help someone avoid a bad purchase.
