Not getting the pricing

The reason the tweeners arent sooo much cheaper than the standard line is because pricing is more about production value than materials. Yes the tweeners are smaller, but they require an equal amount of work to create, so the difference in price reflects the difference in cost of materials, but similar cost in machining and labor to craft.

A few extra inches of steel and grivory make little difference in cost, probably much less than $7. That is the way the world works or a honda would cost "billions". Mwuhahaha.

Bingo. Size doesn't matter. Well, not as much as you might think.

My iPhones keep getting thinner, but they ain't getting no cheaper :)

A big knife may have more steel, but small knives often need more precision during the manufacturing process. You're not just paying for raw materials. To further what Spameater said, you're paying for manufacture and labor, manufacturer's profit, distribution, wholesaler's mark-up, more distribution, marketing, and retail mark-up. Console video games cost something like $4 or less to manufacture (the ones on disks anyhow), but $60 if you want to buy one.

Perhaps a better way to look at this is not how much the 16 costs, but how little the bigger Beckers cost. Seems like a heluva deal.

I only have Becker's I can pick up for $45-65 ish because I've found I can get a knife from Ontario that does everything a $90 Becker does for $45-65.
Then you're missing out...
Don't misunderstand - I've got nothing against Ontario knives. They're inexpensive and functional. I have two: a RD7 and a NS9. Aside from the fact that the handles suck, they're decent knives. BUT (you knew there was a but, right? ), I have used my RD7 alongside my BK7... and the BK7 outperforms it consistently. Truth be told, I rather prefer 5160...but Ontario runs it a bit soft; and KaBar does a great job on the 1095 (and I'm not otherwise a KaBar fan).
I'm not knocking Ontario - they're a good value.
My personal experience is that KaBar's Beckers are worth the price difference TO ME.

Mfw reading a discussion on BK&T supposedly being too expensive 'cause they're not always on closeout...

The fact that Mr. Becker put many years into perfecting his designs should obviously count for something. $70 for a knife made in America by Americans? That is a steal, in my opinion. There are other companies, American and otherwise who sell cheaper knives, but in most cases you get what you pay for. Beckers are a fantastic value. They could sell for much more and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them.

sebenzas are smaller yet. they cost a lot more.

i want all my things to be on closeout, because more money for me!

boo hoo :P

All this talk of pricing, deals or no deals, just makes me sad. Whatever price so see - double it - then that's the price we would get a Becker over in UK/Europe. This 5 / 15 deals so far have not even transferred to over here. There a very limited suppliers over here to start with.

But Becker are still great value and surprises me when people want to pay very high prices for just one knife, such as a scandi knife with broom handle, but costs the price of 10 Moras. Or a used car price for a knife, just cos it's made by "that bloke from superman". ☺
