What's with losers that post on a thread in the FOR SALE forums "I'll take it" and then don't contact the seller? Not only that, the loser has no email listed in their profile and there's no way for the seller to contact them!!!!

LUCKY BOB posts on my thread for a knife I'm selling that he'll take it, then never contacts me, even after I post for him to (no email in his profile)... and I'm sure he saw the post as he's been on the site after I posted it.

Why waste peoples time and energy???

Not good, not ugly, but in my book they're bad

Yes, Lucky Bob needs to contact you asap and NOT post "I'll take it" unless he means it. That is a huge inconvenience/disappointment at a minimum, and might have completely cost you a sale to someone else that has since bought something else.

"I'll take it" means I'll take it and it also means "I'll be in contact with the seller right away."

I think it would be a reasonable requirement that anyone who participates in the Knife Exchange be required to be email accessible and PM would be much better.

Don't want to opine to anything else just to quoted part: it doesn't mean necessarily he saw what you posted (or in other words, opened thread where you posted), only that he visited SOME webpage of Bladeforums.

You may be right, but I do know that if I posted on a thread for a knife, "I'll take it" and I really did want it, I would try to contact the the seller via email, message, or through the thread.

In this case, Lucky Boy didn't have an email on his profile, and I couldn't send him a message, but I did post on the thread to contact me. I know he's been on the site at least once, he's posted on other threads since I asked him to contact me. Wouldn't someone with at least half a brain go back to check the thread if they posted "I'll take it"???

Then again, maybe he was just "kicking tires" and never had any intention of buying it or maybe he had second thoughts about buying it. In either case, someone with at least half a brain would contact me with an explaination or an excuse for backing out... not just ignoring the whole thing.

I think they ought to be banned. Anyone else that would have wanted to buy the knife will move on after seeing this. Also just as bad is to post "email sent" when all they wanted to do was ask a question. "email sent" is an instant thread killer. If you are guilty of this please think about it before you do it again. Just send the seller an email.

It only makes sense that once you post "I'll take it", that you immediately send an email to the seller requesting payment instructions, giving instructions on how you would prefer to have the item shipped, and giving your shipping address. What Lucky Bob did is totally unacceptable behavior.

I don't think a banning would be appropriate, certainly not for the first time around as anything can happen. The "I'll take it" post may have been made with the best of intentions and then something bad happened. It has happened. However, in such a case, the "I'll take it" poster absolutely must contact the seller immediately.

I also agrse that an "email sent" post is useless and frustrating.

Good Point! I think it should be a requirement that you have a valid email address, accesible, so people can contact you.

I understand about not wanting SPAM but come on guys. If you've ever posted ONCE on the internet anywhere, if you've ever bought anything online ONCE, if you've ever done ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET. You've opened yourself up for SPAM. Thats just a fact guys. It's the nature of the beast so to speak. It's the price we pay for the joy of "surfing the net".
You can buy all the spam blockers, adware & spyware blockers and have a great firewall but all it does is slow it down. I don't think anything will stop it completely.

So post a valid email address in your profile so we can contact each other.
I don't need to know your real name, address, your city or state.

Sorry for the rant. It just bugs me when you can't get a hold of someone.

Have a great day.

If you include your email address in your profile, instead of an email the forum software will send a message to your email address. Unlike the old days, your email address doesn't show, so it is impossible for spammers to harvest email addresses from Bladeforums. Everyone should include their email in their profile.

So there you have it. It should be a rule.

Gentlebeings, the moderators are pretty busy enforcing the rules we have already. Walking the Plank in September is two pages long (and the spam will probably get worse as we get closer to Christmas; it usually does).

If somebody tries to participate in the Exchange without enabling either email or Private Messages and doesn't respond to posts in the thread, I don't think he's going to be participating in the Exchange very successfully. He's probably going to notice his lack of success in buying or selling anything sooner or later....

I disagree.
I certainly don't consider "E-mail sent" to be a thread killer.
I think that it's rather helpful.

I have several different e-mail accounts (one for my primary workplace, one for my part-time workplace, one for the trade forums, one for my family and close friends, and one that I give to folks I really don't want to be close friends with) and I don't check all of the accounts every single day, but I do usually come here to Bladeforums everyday.

So, when a person post in my trade thread that he sent me an e-mail, I'll know to check my trade forum e-mail.

Besides, as we all know, sometimes e-mails just get lost somewhere in the internet.
If you sent me an e-mail on a trade and I never got the e-mail, you might think that I'm ignoring you or that I'm not interested in the offer.

But if you post on the forums that you sent me an e-mail, and I never got the e-mail, I can post back telling you that I never received the e-mail you sent.

I have to agree,I never did care for people posting in my for sale threads.Even though,I've probably done a couple times myself.I'd prefer people just e-mail me or p.m. me for questions, offers, etc.

i agree, to me "email sent" only means they are making an offer, i dont consider it sold until the seller posts "this item is sold", all kinda stuff can happen, folks back out/vanish/etc, one time there was a crawford knife for sale at a good price, 2 folks had posted "i'll take it" and i posted i would too if the others backed out, which they did and i got the knife, point being if ya really want the item make sure its sold before ya give up on it.

I usually send the email and then post in the thread
"email on the way".

I think it probably would be best to specify
"email with a question" or
"email on knife #2 -- i'll take it"

More clarity helps everyone.
Some posts ARE threadkillers,
especially if the seller doesn't get a "knife sold" post up for a day or so --
who knows what's going on?

Back to the original post, I really feel for barcbsa.
We've had this come up before, where people ask,
how long they should honor an "i'll take it" with no follow-up,
and people telling them, "give the guy a couple of days".

Yeah, be a nice guy, but ... why couldn't he email when he posted,
or why didn't he say I'll email in 2 days when I get home,
I'm on the road or whatever and I Want This Knife.

The more often I see it,
the less sympathy I have for the no-show buyer.

Might want to upgrade?

Lucky Bob has posted that he sent an email and then it bounced. I'll give him the benefit of doubt.

However, he still was on this site several times after I posted for him to contact me. I would assume he would check the thread if he didn't hear from me. I know I would have and I did check the thread, many times... but nothing from him for over 2 days. OK... let's give him the benefit of doubt again.

However, he never put any contact information on his profile. I would have and I think most people do. Once again... we'll give him the benefit of doubt.

But to me, it's still was a pain in the ass.

barcbsa,

Were you ever a Gold Member and let it lapse? Because if you weren't when you posted that thread you have violated a rule of BFC by selling on this forum without a paying membership. Just thought you'd like to know. That is a big no-no. Very big in fact.

I would also like to say something to the paying members of this forum...

Do not encourage registered users who are selling on BFC without the proper membership. Be part of the solution and report them rather than being part of the problemand buying from them.

Ken, it did not even dawn on me. Did not notice it. This is a huge oversight. Ironic.
