Time after time when I have ordered from opticsplanet.com, the next day I get an email that the item is out of stock. I expect an item to be in stock if it is shown on the website, and an occasional lack of stock is foreseeable. But opticsplanet is so consistently out of stock that it is no longer worth the hassle to place an order and then have to go through the trouble of cancelling it later or waiting days for them to deliver the item. I recommend buying elsewhere.

Just my experience.

thanks

I have had similar frustrations with Opticsplanet. Far too many items are out of stock or discontinued, yet they appear on their website as "in-stock."

I haven't had that experience with them, and agree it's not something that should have to be put up with. The two reasons why I WOULD recommend them are that their prices/selection tend to be very good, and also the three times I've called them over the years with product questions (a rifle scope BDC system, a lens-coating question, and a "how easy is this range finder to use?" question), the people who picked up the phone didn't have to transfer me to anybody and were very knowledgeable, and in one case directed me to a less expensive product than the one I was looking at.

I'd suggest--if you haven't done so already--hitting their "contact" link and fire your comments at them. Something like the problems you're describing above need to be addressed, and customer dissatisfaction needs to be made known.

They got me on that one too,
They eventually got my order to me 5 weeks later.
In stock is a loose term there:cool::cool:

Same here, a few years ago I tried to place 2 or 3 orders and got the "out of stock" thing and quit trying.

I'm with BCCL on this one.

I just gave up after applying the 3-strikes rule.

Plenty of other providers out there.

I tried to order from them via ebay but they said something in my order popped up a red flag against a US government list. they wouldn't say what but asked for my drivers license/passport etc to be scanned and emailed to them. I told them no thanks, just refund my $ (which they did) - I've been shopping on ebay for 10 years...this is the first I've heard of this, lol...

I was trying to buy a backpacking stove, not even a knife.

I've tried to order from them on more than one occasion but their items are always out of stock. Their prices are good if you don't mind waiting a few weeks. I've never had a problem canceling orders but I usually shop elsewhere.

I'll never order from them again either, same game run on me. I order it and then a couple of days later they tell me it's out of stock and they'll get it to me in a few weeks, that time goes by and still nothing.

They are a waste of time, I won't even go to their site now to check a price.

My brother also has had the same issue with them. He's also done with them.

Hmmmm....I wonder if they've undergone a change in management since the last time I dealt with them? Whatever the reason it's a shame---once upon a time they were a worthwhile vendor.

I ordered three items from them in December and had all three in my hands in four days. Maybe I just got lucky.

I've had similar problems with them. I ordered a stock for my Ruger 10/22 and it took longer than two weeks to get it. On the 15th day after ordering I emailed them and got back a response saying they'd resend the order. 20 days after ordering I received the stock.

Interestingly, about two weeks ago I received a second stock from them. I only paid for one, so I sent the second one back, but it was odd.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. Looks like everyone has this issue with Optics Planet (also go by opticsforyou.com and possibly others).

I've tried to order several items from them and always find out two weeks later they never had it in stock and get an answer back that it will be back in stock in a week but it never seems to be back in stock. Last time I waited six weeks and just ended up canceling the order.

I won't ever buy from them again intentionally.

Hey everyone,

We're most definitely listening, and we know that the fact that we are sometimes out of stock doesn't make our customers happy. It obviously doesn't make us happy either, there are a number of people who have said in this thread they won't shop with us anymore because of it. That's not good for business.

We have one of the largest warehouses in Illinois, and recently purchased another one to expand our inventory. Having great prices and a customer-friendly website means we turn products very quickly, but we're at the mercy of suppliers when it comes to restocking. When we email you and say 7-10 days, or 20-30 days, we aren't making it up - that info is relayed by the supplier. We have good relationships with them, but that doesn't mean that we're ok with it when 7-10 days turns into 2 months.

Our website does not show in-stock/out-of-stock status because our website doesn't update fast enough. I can't give specific numbers, but the amount of products we receive and ship out in any given week is more than you'd imagine - we're a top 500 internet retailer (not just for the products we carry... we're ranked with Amazon, Dell, etc.) Managing our inventory better is a gigantic project we are working on, and we're rolling out improvements constantly. In the meantime, you can always call us toll-free to see if the item you are looking for is in-stock or not.

Our customers tell us we are one of the top online retailers out there (see Reseller Ratings or other reviews sites), but we know we aren't perfect. So we're always listening, and threads like this do help.

While I work in the Marketing and not Customer Service, if I can ever do anything to help please PM me. I'll do everything I can to help!

I have no dog in this fight, (having never ordered from them) but I would say that the foregoing post from OpticsPlanet was pretty straight forward and tells it like it is in the real world. I have over the years dealt with many thousands of suppliers for initial stock and replenishment and I concur with his statements regarding delivery.

If you enjoy the pricing structure he has in place, please be aware that his inventory has to be controlled within reasonable financial bounds consistent with anticipated rate of sale. When you order an item and he is out of stock, you don't get the item right away. Disappointment on both sides (He missed a sure sale and you didn't get your new whatever). Based on information I obtained from the internet, they do have what would be considered a massive warehouse pretty well filled up, but outs still can and do occur.

If everything else is good, then the occasional wait while at the mercy of his distributor or manufacturer, isn't the end of the world. Patience, my friends.

Paul
