Not much love for the Manix M4?

I'm a big fan of CPM-M4, and 2 of my users have that steel. The military has a forced patina on it, and I sent that out to be done. The GB still hasnt developed a patina despite being used extensively for cutting fruit, vegetables, meat, etc. I only maintain it about once a month with mineral oil in the pivot, but its otherwise wash & wipe.

Here it is out of my pocket this morning, still looks good as new. Used it last night to help prep some ribeyes for the grill after I cut up some mangoes with it.

I sold off my other Manix2's and have a Manix2 M4 but it's still in the box and probably will not ever use it. It's not so much the steel, but rather the lock, that makes me not want to use it as much as my other knives. Looks like it might build up crap in there, and it's not as easy to keep clean as my original Manix.

I didn't even realize it was in production yet, the price seems reasonable for a CPM M4 manix 2. My issue is that I've discovered that I REALLY like lightweight knives, the original mini-manix at 5.5oz was just too heavy. While the manix 2 is lighter, it's only by a half oz or so, you still can't forget about it unless you're wearing denim jeans or other heavyweight material pants. A para 2 or lightweight manix in M4 for a slightly lower price would have been much harder to resist.

The M4 Manix 2 has skeletonized liners. It weighs 4.25 ounces.

Hi Guys,

I am trying to understand (before possibly buying) why I don't see an overwhelming positive response on the Manix M4?

The reviews and comments I found while searching around were all ok/good, but I just simply don't hear much about the knife on the forums in general. And it is still available at BBS, after more than a year of being released.

It certainly does not seem to have the same following as some of the other very popular M4 Spydercos (GB, M4 Millie).

Am I missing something?
Possibly that it's a dealer exclusive from a dealer who:

  • charges higher than average prices
  • does not ship overseas
  • does not ship to New York
  • does not accept returns

All of which tend to limit their potential customer base.

Not much love?

Well I still like it.

Here's a review I did sometime ago now:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...nix-2-in-CPM-M4-Tan-G10-(Pic-heavy-minor-gore.)

Hi Xavierdoc, yes I enjoyed your review! It was one of the few proper reviews I could find, which made me wonder why I do not see more glowing reviews, like you do for the GB or M4 Millie for instance.

But I guess the response to this thread was good enough to conclude that many people like theirs very much, and that it is a solid and desirable version of the Manix.

Popularity might be limited because of the dealer factors Deacon mentioned.

I was lucky enough to score a S90V Military over the weekend , so for now the Manix will have to stay on my list for a few more months until my budget has recovered...:)

The reason for that is probably because they lied. The released it saying it was a Sprint Run of 600. Then after they sold out, they said, "Yeah, it's limited to 600, and then we can get another 600 made any time we want."

So it's not collectible like all of the other Manix 2 sprints.

Bento has high prices and according to some, slightly sketchy business practices.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

Personally, I like the heft. That's one of the reasons I decided to get rid of my M4 Manix in favor of the original. I would have liked to try the M4, though... I hope it shows up in another knife... say the PM2. And preferably NOT from BBS.

It's a awesome knife I have it and a GB and I have to say M4 is my favorite steel you can get them tree topping sharp.
