The standard size SAK blade is about 2 3/4".

once there was a time when we New England Yankees were famed for our preparedness and resourcefulness. The ultimate in preparedness is always carrying a pocketknife.

Planterz- Boston hasn't become the facist state of NYC yet. It is highly doubtful that someone carrying any knife over 2.5 inches in the city of boston will be prosecuted solely for that. Usually if the police officer finds the knife you did something else to give him/her cause to be suspicious.

Last time that happened to me,I went to the gift shop and hid it in the back corner of a magazine display.Went back a week later and picked it up. So much for house cleaning

Living in the suburbs of Washington D.C., and spending a great deal of time 'downtown' I leave any large cutlery at home. Going into any of the Smithsonian Museums, the National Gallery Of Art, the National Aquarium, or any federal building, knives are a very restricted item. The smaller of the sak's go through security like corn through a goose. For some reason, the red handle with the silver cross on it, goes under most security radar. The one time I had one young inexperienced guard question my sak, his super told him "Hey, that's a Swiss Army knife, they're cool." He waved me right on through.

Truth be told, you really don't need much knife in the big city, but a small sharp cutter is a handy thing to have. If it has a few tools on it, then it's gravy on the potatoes. A sak is the perfect city knife.
