Unless you count the fact that she usually walked with me to the mailbox to collect my Schrade goodies when they came in. Anyway, my best friend in the world for the last 12 years, Maggie Mae, had to be put down last night. Old age just got to her and she had trouble walking and doing other things dogs do. But she loved me til the end, giving me a big wet kiss all over my face as the vet gave the final injection. She will be missed dearly. I especially love the way the sun shone on her in the last pic, as she was my sunshine for many years.

Nite nite, Maggie, Daddy loves you.

i know how you feel and wish you the best. my advice is to wait for a time then look for someone to walk with you to get your goodies.
(i say this having had to put down a Mastiff and a beloved cat)

I'm truly sorry Dave, those 'ol poochies sure get under your skin, don't they? "Best Friend" is an understatement! It's just too damned bad they don't live as long as we do, but the good times they do spend with us certainly outweigh the pain of letting them go.

I feel for you friend. I had a black lab named Star growing up. Had her for almost ten years before the arthritis got so bad that one day she was unable to make it across the street and was hit during the night. Living in the country we always let the dogs roam. I'm sure that dog walked hundreds of miles with me along the creeks and fields growing up. You never forget the good times.

I am sorry to hear about Maggie.
We have four Lhasa Apsos and I am extremely attached to a couple of them, and the feeling is mutual I know. One of them, Josi, I nursed back to health when she almost died as a puppy. I am especially attached to her. She rarely leaves my side as is sleeping on the floor beside me as I type this. I know how attached we can get to a special dog.

I can only imagine how you must feel.
Heal soon my friend.

Sorry to hear the bad news, Dave. I realize how difficult it is to lose a family pet, a dear and loyal friend is gone. During times like these I believe that your Maggie Mae is once again running in pastures new, with the rest of the big dogs in the great field in the sky.

Best regards

Russell

Thanks for the well wishes and kind thoughts, everybody, everything helps, but my heart still hurts. And I'm sure it will for a long while. She was, like I said, my best friend, literally. I still have two other sheepdogs, and they are great dogs, doing their best to help me through this, but she was the first and the best.

Dave , I feel your loss , I had my Missy for 17 years , she has been gone for 9 years now and i still miss her. It gets better with time.

Makes me remember a few special lost friends. She looks like she was a good girl.

Man Dave, i can feel the saddness. my own really. 4 years ago i had to have Jake, a 9 yr. old Jack Russell put down for some wierd but bad malignancy.
one of the most amazing beings i have ever known and the saddness is still there.
all the best to you. you have our sincere sympathies for sure.

Sorry to hear this, Dave.

They really are like a part of the family.

I'm sure time will help, but not for awhile.

Dave, I feel your pain and loss. Over the years we have lost too many dear friends. The last was my best friend Molly who passed December 15, 2006. All but one of our best friends were strays we adopted. Thankfully there is a pet support group here and they literally saved me. I lost weight, got stomach problems and generally mourned all the time. The pain will leave but not the empty spot. I just think they are all waiting at the Rainbow Bridge to greet us when it's our time.

Dave very sorry to hear about that my friend! I unfortunatly have never had a dog I was able to get close enough to, to feel your pain. I do know the value of a great companion though. I am convinced thought that true love cannot be seperated by life nor death! - Joel

Jenny and I would like to offer our condolences and wish you another great canine relationship in the future!
