Not sure how to recover

I was working on a handle and the knife fell and handle material cracked. I was in the middle of hand sanding so I getting pretty close to the end. I'm not sure how to recover from this.
Hang it on the 'Wall of Shame' and start over fresh or????

I'm not sure how to remove scales that have been epoxy'd and pined.

Thoughts?

That sucks! I'm always fixing some sort of screw up... had to redo a cord wrap and some sheaths yesterday.

Just knock it out, you still have a valuable knife under those scales.

Try a heat gun and razor blade to get under the scales, heat until the epoxy gets gummy then try to pry under. Drill out your pins first if you can. Sometimes this won't work, I tested some G11 scales with G-Flex epoxy and the blowtorch, razor blade then sledge on the front of scales did nothing... I ground those off.

I messed one up a couple of weeks ago, a large fighter with a paper micarta handle. I went to hard on the handle shaping and both scorched and cracked the scales. But since I had invested several hours in the blade I decided to grind the Micarta handle off, it was fastened with epoxy and pins. But a 36 grit belt made the process quick, it's actually pretty impressive how fast the complete handle was turned into dust.

I then grabbed a new pair of scales and this is what became of it.

Wrap the blade in a damp cloth and use a torch to heat the scales on both sides until they smoke a bit Slide a shop knife blade under the scales and pop them off. It may take a couple of heats up get the resin warm enough, but when it gets around 200F it crumbles and has no bond. If the blade is stainless, just drop the handle end in a pot of boiling water and let it boil for half an hour.

Are there issues with dropping the whole blade?

I’ll take Mr. Apelt for 1000 Alex......FOR THE WIN!!!!

Popped right off. Thank you for your guidance!

I have a little experience with making knives but I will never live long enough to come close to the knowledge that Mr. Apelt has. Larry
