Not sure if I want the custom 112 over the production 112.

I want to pick up a 112 but how do you like your production 112? Is it solid all around? If it is I'd rather not spend the extra loot and go with the production 112.

I have a square jaw two dot 112 and I love it. Its the best one in my opinion. And I have a fg newer 112 and it's pretty nice also. I'd find a oldie if I was in the market for another one. U should like it pretty well :D

A few questions for you.

1. What's a two dot 112?
2. Are there new oldie's out there? I don't want a used 112 so an oldie, unless new and solid with blade centered, it would be a no go.

A 2 dot 112 will say BUCK ·112· U.S.A. on the tang. Its the old dot system. Do u know about it? If nit Google it. Its a first edition 112 72-76 I believe. Not 100% on that. But it's 440c steel solid as a rock. They are still around mint. I have two still in boxes. Check em out.

Not much out there on that bay site.
This one online store said they would hand pick a production 112 for me with centering etc... Just comparing the production to the custom. If I don't get the s30v blade, does it make sense to get the custom?

It is probably a personal thing. I have several production 112's, all relative newer, both finger groove and regular frame. I really like the 112.

And I do not want to miss out on a Custom Shop 112 again, so two are being made. At least one will be carried often. The production 112 is a great buy for the money and I am happy with each one of mine. A Custom Shop version should be a personalized & sweet. Just my thoughts.

I'm curious. Are you getting the s30v and what kind of handle?

What Buckman110 means is if it is a knife to use than the current production 112 is a great knife at the price. If it will be a knife for you to store away as a collectable or to show off that you have a custom than the custom shop 112 is the way go go.

This is also my thoughts. Buy a new 112 if it is for you to use.

Like those potato chips, can't have just one.......

#1: S30V, walnut, finger grooves, no pins

#2: finger grooves again, 420HC, oak, pins, and engraving.

Looking forward to these and wish I could justify more. These should keep a big smile on my face.

U got it.

the dang dots mean it was modified by buck so as to not be easily made in to a gravity knife is all
it was NOT a daym dating system !

if you can get a custom 112 ... for close to same money get it ..
if you want a good user get the s30v ... harder to sharpen :)unless you know how(:

There was a 2 dot a 3 dot and a 4 dot. U need to read up on your buck history dude, that was a dating system.

Like all of my knives, I wouldn't be buying the 112 to sit in a drawer. I like to use all of my knives and the 112 would be no different. I would like to try a custom horizontal sheath to carry.

To the OP, the production 112 is more than all around solid. It's a heavy-duty user. I am still surprised, after decades of use, how my 112 locks up, sharpens up, shines up. I am also still surprised at how heavy in the hand it is for such a small knife, giving a solid platform for cutting tough media such as rope, leather, hide, and wood. Mine is a simple production 112/ and I have used the besneezus out of it and it still looks great.

Couldn't agree more. I've owned and used my 112 since 1973 and it still locks up tight in all directions. Knives are like automobiles. The production 112 is the Jeep and the custom 112 is the sports car. They both get you where you need to go, but you don't worry about pushing the Jeep a little harder or taking it off road. The sports car gets you there in style. And there's nothing wrong with having both parked in your garage. :)
