Not sure if I want to collect any more...

Less is more. You will really like the knives you have now.
Try bird watching. Really!

I hit that hump a long time ago. Start using them and you'll find a whole new appreciation.

There is more to collecting than purchasing.

I had a big letdown recently. I bought a knife from a maker whose products I had admired for some time. When I received it and opened the package, there was a big "blah" feeling. The knife just didn't "have it," so I returned the knife paying the 10% restocking fee.

For me each knife has a story.

YMMV

:ambivalence:

Just wait until you find a whole new style of knife to collect.
5 years ago i'd never even heard of a puukko.
On a similar vein regarding the psychology, I recently received my Joonas Kalioniemi puukko.
It's so good I grabbed about 10 knives from my collection that i decided I just don't need anymore.
If I wasn't so lazy about photos, they'd all be up for sale now.

I started out buying many custom hunters in 1095. Great steel, but found that living here in the always damp (if not soaking) PNW, I rarely stray now from purchasing the higher-end SS bladed custom hunters and skinners. Yes.....I am very diligent about keeping my blades dry, cleaned, Ren waxed and/or lightly oiled, but even though most all SS blades can and will still show signs of rust/corrosion if not cared for (less H1 and perhaps a very few others), I find SS still to be much more desirable to carbon steel, given our wet environment.

So.....what to do with my 1095 customs? I give many of them away to friends and family. I am outdoors much more than any friends or family so these new gifts will be much less exposed to the elements than if I used them. I always instruct these new knife owners as to how to care for their new carbon steel knives and they are all quite thankful to own a new knife, much less a new, custom knife.

Give away what doesn't suit you or strike your fancy anymore (for whatever reason) and make room for new knives that you deem either more useful or desirable to you due to your past experiences and the wisdom you likely have gained from your previous years of knife transactions.

It's really a '2-fer' of sorts.......you make room for more useful or more desirable knives for yourself while also sharing (and perhaps starting another on the path to knife 'addiction') with others a gift that they are very much appreciative of receiving (and later find quite useful and wonder why they never owned such a nice knife before).

It's a win-win.........IMHO

I've bought and resold a lot of knives over the past couple years. Still got a few favorites that have stuck around, but my collection isn't all that big. As of next week though, I'm not sure what else I want. I got a ZT 0550 yesterday, I've got a Bark River North Star coming next week, I've got a kukri that'll last me a few lifetimes...

It's weird. I never thought I'd reach this point, but I'm satisfied with my collection. When I started I swear I wanted everything, but as I've learned what I really enjoy, I guess I found that I can match my likes up with just a few knives.

I'm almost sad. What am I going to look forward to now...?

I know exactly what you are feeling because I have been there. I owned a nice collection of around 20 cool knives including customs and mid-techs. After a while though I found that I only actually ever used 2 or 3 in rotation. The others were just collected... So I sold 'em off and now I just have 5 knives, my favorites 3 that I don't think I could ever sell, and just a couple more for rotation, trading, buying & selling. So I'm not really collecting knives anymore but I still like to stay active and look at new stuff on the exchange or on certain websites. You don't have to collect knives to enjoy them. I enjoy the buying and selling of knives just to experience a different knife for a little while before selling it and looking for something else new and interesting.
