Not sure if this is the place for this... But I have to Fangirl for a moment...

"Steel is just some good ol 1095!"

One of my all time favorites. It can be made to do so many things well. It's a joy to resharpen compared to most stainless steels too. All around good choice. I made the mistake of using D2 on my first knife because it was pretty rare back then. I would have used 1095 if I had to do it over. I was doing much of it with files and sandpaper and I learned how stubborn D2 could be. That was long ago. :)

I like working with it a bunch! I did O-1 first and i think it was a little easier to grind, but there is such a huge cost difference between the two. $5 at most a foot for 1095 vs $12 a foot for o-1. I also heat treat with an oxy-A torch so I cant get the full benifits of the O-1. That 1095 with my so so heat treat still takes a super great edge and according to the guy the bought a couple of my knives holds a good edge so i will take it! :)

Yep, O1 is pretty expensive. You are correct that it does it's best work with oil. 1095 is an all around good choice in my opinion.

You gain a perspective after a few knives are under your belt and you can eliminate mistakes from experience but for me the fun and anticipation from my first knife was something that can't be replicated. It caused me to hurry the process more than I should have and didn't come out as well as it should/could have. That itself is a lesson. :)

Congratulations on getting the recognition! A job well done, indeed. I'm liking what I see...stupid question for you: have you considered any engraving / other art work on the blade itself?

The only thing I put on my blades is my logo, which is basically just my initials. Im not particularly good at it haha. I do plan on doing some file work on one of my next knives, Im not sure I will on this one because I already have so much time tied up in it, but I have a blank cutout that I think I might put some on.
