If this thread belongs somewhere else, I'm sorry but I don't know where it should be...I'm just looking for advice.

I was recently referred to a Facebook group (by someone who subs to bladeforums) called "Blade Traders"...I'm sure many of you are members of this FB group.

I requested to join the group, answered their entry questions and agreed to abide by the group rules...then heard nothing.

Fast forward a week, I requested to join again...answered their questions, etc.

I then received a reply from an admin, saying my entry was declined because I didn't have any "groups in common" with them OR "friends" in the group.

Apparently, these things automatically make me a scammer. Who knew???

I responded to the admin, to say that I didn't understand why I couldn't join the group as a knife lover and NOT a scammer.

Instead of being replied to, I was then blocked from even being able to view the Facebook group at all!

Has anyone else had any similarly peculiar experiences with this FB group?

4K+ members there so, hopefully, someone here can shed light on the issue for me. Since I can no longer even view the group page and/or contact them, I don't know what the heck to do.

As it stands, I find it to be utterly confounding. Denying someone from joining a group because he doesn't already know anyone there and assuming he must, therefore, be a scammer?

Facebook groups have been infested with scammers as of late. That and each group has its own mods with their own egos, rules and thoughts about the hobby. I don’t know why you would be blocked but I wouldn’t stress too much, I’m in about 20 buy/sell groups and honestly Bladeforums is the best venue for this by far.

Thank you. Mainly, it just bothers me that someone "in power" there made such a poor judgment call, based on SO little information and an incorrect assumption. I mean...I even explained that I have an 800+ all-positive feedback score on ebay going 20 years back, for crying out loud. No response to that message...just blocked entirely, with no apparent way to contact them.

Unfortunately, as many of us experienced as well, it can be difficult for people new to the community to get traction in joining a lot of these groups because of the massive amount of scammers mentioned, and a big red flag for the admins is if a person has apparently no existing presence in the community. It's clear how that can fail and eliminate new people that should be allowed to join but you just have to keep trying different groups, meeting people, and gradually work your way into the community ... and try not to take it personally.

I'm glad you reconsidered joining Bladeforums. I'd encourage you to read the rules. I ended up here after seeing some of your other posts and being curious about what else you might have posted. Good luck and welcome to the community.

No one said you were a scammer. It's really easy and simple. We only let ppl in with mutual friends and mutual groups in common. You have zero of either. You got blocked bc you knocked on the door several times. We're a year old and without a scam, it's bc we can look into everyone we let in. Call it private, call it invite only, call it only mutual friends and groups in common, regardless. Nobody is in we can't verify on FB, bc that's where we are, FB. Why would the rules (that are for members in the group) have to include things for ppl that don't qualify to get in. It's in the cover photo. Requires mutual friends and groups in common.

Okay, we are not going to get involved here with the internal machinations of Facebook or its groups.

You guys can resume the discussion over there as can any of our members who care to.

Locking this.
