KnifeKits.com or the USPS

I placed an order with Knifekits.com for some sheath making supplies - 12"x24" Kydex, Tek-Lok, and some Chicago screws. Order was placed on 3/07.

After a week and a half with no arrival, I e-mailed knifekits. On the 19th, almost two weeks after I placed my order I recieved a reply that they had been back ordered on Kydex and that my order was going out that day. I was given a USPS tracking number (even though the e-mail stated that the item was being shipped via UPS, whatever, I paid for USPS shipping with my order). At this moment 11 days after recieving the tracking info, the USPS website still lists this for the tracking info:

Label/Receipt Number: xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx
Status: Acceptance

Your item was accepted at 4:37 PM on March 19, 2007 in PALMETTO, GA 30268. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

I have no idea where my package is, and it's now over 3 weeks since I placed my order.... what a freakin bummer

That's normal for USPS. A while after you receive it the website will be updated to say it was delivered.

That tracking number is just about worthless. I've had packages arrive that never went beyond the initial pickup notification. I have one right now that the vendor mailed out on 3/28 and the tracking info still says:

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper on March 28, 2007 to expect your package for mailing. This does not indicate receipt by the USPS or the actual mailing date. Delivery status information will be provided if / when available. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

I mean, why even offer a tracking service if the most important part, THE TRACKING, is not done?

USPS had delivery confirmation. When the package is delivered the site will be updated. So, sometime after the doorbell rings, and the postman is standing outside with your stuff, and he gives your package to you, you can go online and find out that yes the package was delivered. However, it won't say who signed (if it was signed for) for it or if it was delivered to the correct address. Handy.

Well I guess at this point most of my irritation should be with the USPS. I'm just surprised that it's taking this long. Generally I find that Priority Mail (which may not have been used in this case) items usually arrive within about 2 days. I'm over 10 days here at this point, and I'm not even sure what my course of action is if this never arrives.

I don't think your problem is with knifekits.com. I placed an order a little over a week ago and it arrived yesterday. More likely problem is with the USPS.

Just be happy that your package wasn't sent via USPS "Media Mail"...Delivery via "Media Mail" can sometimes be measured in weeks (or MONTHS), rather than days.

I've been waiting on delivery of a $2 (eBay) book sent to me from Indiana since the 19th.:grumpy:.

I understand your frustration. You've waited a long time and there are two delays compounding your arrival. The backorder status, although frustrating, was remedied immediately upon shipment arrival, and sent out to you.

The USPS, on the other hand, has it's own timeline....

Like I said, I understand. Not much you can do but gripe.... ;)

Not much you can do but gripe....

Well, you could chill out, and wait until the package arrives before deciding who's at fault.

At that time, you'll have a better idea of exactly when it was actually sent and by what class of mail.

USPS , Im sure does a good job.
The problem is that we tend to compare it to Fedx or UPS,,,,

For the USPS you got to scale way back on what you can hope for...

Arrrgggh! To add insult to injury.... The two Mora knives I ordered on Thursday, (one from Georgia, the other from Maryland) arrived yesterday, also via USPS (Priority Mail). I'm suspecting that this item was probably lost in transit.

I paid for USPS shipping with my order

Yes you see this is the deal we make with ourselves ...
USPS is a lot cheaper sometimes, and so we go for it...
There is nothing really wrong with shipping with USPS for things that are not so important that they have to be here fast.

The problem we all face however, is that after about 10 days we start to think about how much faster a different carrier would have been.
And the more we think about it, the more we cant understand the wait...and so the more upset we get ourselves.
The only answer is to this situation is - Think of something else, because getting upset over USPS will not hurry things along at all.

The knife will get there when it will get there,,,

Luckily there's nothing there that is dreadfully important. Some Kydex and accessories. The problem isn't that the USPS is good or bad, it that their process sucks. If only their tracking system actaully TRACKED the packages this would be a different situation. As it is, the tracking system is only really a moderately effective way for a shipper to see if the customer has recieved something. Since departure and arrival are the only thing that are actually tracked. UPS and Fed-Ex are generally only marginally faster, but their process is light years ahead of the USPS.

We seem to be using email too much now days. If you have a problem with an order for supplies, knives, ect., just pick up the phone and call. This could save a lot of grief.

Try to understand...UPS and Fedex are using state of the art science to take orders, track them, and answer questions..

On The Other Hand...

USPS is,...well....around 1996 and hovering...
