So, this is my first post here and I’ve read the rules, and also don’t want to break them. I wanted to post a knife to trade, but it appears I have to pay for that posting privilege. Is that correct?

Do you

do you also need a gold membership to buy a knife from here?

No, gold is not required to buy. Anyone can do that. Gold or higher is required to sell and gain access to other sub forums.

To trade straight up, all you NEED is basic membership, but if cash is needed to level things out, you may need gold. Not positive on that. Gold is worth the extra $ though.

A membership is def in my future. I've only been on here less than 24 hours, and I've messaged a guy about a knife hes selling 3 times myself, my brothers messaged him once, and hes been online all day, still won't respond to me. If that's how it works on here, I'm prolly not gonna spend any money on the forums... Thanks for the help guys.

Depends on the seller's instructions - if they state private message, you're out of luck because that's only available to paid members (yes, sellers sometimes "give back" by limiting sales to paid members). If you're posting on their profile, and they don't have notifications set, it could be months before they realize.
Also, some sellers are horrible about updating their ads & just ignore people after the item is sold

You have messaged one seller, he hasn’t responded as fast as you wish, and you assume this is how the forum works based on this single experience?

This is a community...not a sales site. The sales and trades are a perk.

You’re new. Many people selling items have the right to sell to who they wish, with the risk that the other member follows through with the exchange. It’s in your benefit to pull up a chair and engage in the community to build a reputation and relationships.

I’m the end it’s your decision, but give the forum some time. It’s a fun place and has a lot to offer.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!

Fair enough, guess I'm not one of the "cool kids" yet, however, somebody is selling g something, I'm I interested in buying it, simple supply and demand. It's not that someone hasn't responded fast enough for my liking. It's that they've seen my messages, and blatantly ignored them, it's bad etiquette, and down right rude. It's also hard to gain any respect as a reputable seller/buyer if nobody is willing to deal with you based on experience within the forum. That's like a one off company looking for candidates with experience in the industry, an industry created by said company... I appreciate having a resource like blade forums, and the people that contribute/maintain the site, but I came here to buy a knife, a knife that's for sale. I'll give it some time, hopefully he sees my money is good enough, even if I am new.

Since the seller in question has been watching this thread...I’ll let them answer for themselves if they wish.

At the end of the day, people can sell to whom they wish. And I do agree with your sentiment on how it would be nice to have a response...but again...that’s up to the individual.

A lot of knife trading around here and plenty in the marketplace, they might be in a conversation with someone else already, or maybe don’t want to trade with brand new members with no other posts but someone will, best to just be patient or move along

Not everyone is that way and you have to understand that sellers are often weary of new members, especially ones who commit to buy on their first day. Nothing against you or the seller, it’s just how it is. This is a great forum full of great people. Stay a while and you may form some friendships along the way. Just don’t take it personally that someone won’t sell to you being so new. Regardless, a simple response would be the polite thing to do. Cheers!

Wide range of people buy, sell and trade here. From the super chill, easy to deal with types to the paranoids, from the 'just selling this knife I don't need' to the 'selling knives to pay my rent' types.

Most of them aren't actual businesses and all of them are pretty different.
There are plenty of actual retail businesses that sell knives online that you can go give your business and have some justification in complaining if they don't respond in a professional enough manner. You'll pay retail at those sites and they probably won't have any out of production or other hard to get knives.

Might be best if you did stick with them though. They have people they pay specifically to deal with customers like you. Seven posts in here and you are already getting on some people's ignore lists, I bet.

I get it, I buy and sell a LOT of knives and flashlights, being cautious is never a bad thing. Im not a patient person, something I know I need to work on. The only reason I'm committed to buying on the first day, is because this came up on Google as selling the knife I'm looking for, and at a better price than i found anywhere else. How does a guy get a little street cred first day on the forum, post some pics of my collections? If anyone out there has a sage 5 in good condition, not worried about the scales , I'm def interested in buying, or trading if I have what you want. Thanks for the info guys,

Thank you for your suggestion

I'm assuming you commented on his profile? You cant PM without a membership. It's entirely possible that member just hasn't seen the messages.

You get "street cred" by participating in the forum outside of sales. Be an active member.

And it's not like everyone is that restrictive in their sales. I have no issues selling to whoever, as long as they arent a huge pain.

Be patient. Different sellers have different criteria as to whom they will sell( some want duration, others paid members or participation outside the exchange, and still others don't care)-no idea what that is for this particular seller. Stay around, keep trying, and participate on the forums. You won't be new long and will find plenty to sell to you. Being a day or 2 member can make sellers nervous, especially on higher priced knives. Unless it is a one of a kind(and this your only chance) you will be able to purchase it from someone. We were all new at one time.
When you do purchase be sure to leave feedback and politely ask that they do the same.
and stop messaging him-he knows you are there. If he wants to respond he will.

I've always found that getting "street cred" is done by not being a cry baby the first time you post or assuming that you're somehow entitled to a response because you want to buy something offered for sale but that's just an opinion.

P.S. No one cares how many knives or flashlights you buy.
