Novelty features on knives and sheaths.

On my daily hike today I was thinking about knives that have features or additions that could be construed as novelties or beneficial.

For example, this Civivi has a slot similar to Swiss Army knives, that keeps a small set of tweezers. This is actually fairly handy for splinters, and I would like to see another slot on the other scale that houses a sewing needle or pen.

This thread may serve as a place to identify knives (folders/fixed), and sheaths that may have a unique charachteristic.

The best example I can think of in my collection is the Rike/Forever Steel Alkaid. When you push the button on the back and tilt the knife, the plates in the handle shift and it morphs from a regular knife to a push dagger and back. I have the black on black version; it's surprisingly comfortable in both configurations. Since you're not allowed to conceal fixed blades in CA, this works perfectly. Plus, no one would know it's a push dagger unless they're familiar with the actual knife.

That's pretty neat, I've never seen that model before!

That is amazingly cool. Where'd you get it? How much? Pm me if you don't want muck up the thread.

I have had severl SAKs with the pastic tooth pick snd tweezers. They make other models with a ball point pen and/or tiny flashlight. Features? My current EDC is a multitool . . .it has more useful tools thn sny SAK I have ever owned. Please , no pushback if an SAKis your EDC. To each his own chice.

My view is that I am not attracted to most speacial features on things, I was given a flashlight with a bunch of SAK-like fold out tools . . .not my favorite flashlight. I have seen a sheth knife with tols that fold out of the handle . . .again, no thanks. I have seen fixed blade sheaths with fancy tooling and exotic Lesther inlays that look dramatic, but then I would be leery of bringing it into the wild.

And sure, my Leatherman is versatile, but not ideal for any one specific task, but I have it with me. If I foresee the need for a tool for a specific purpose, I bring along the tool box, or wear a good belt knife.

Thanks! Last I heard it's uncertain if they'll do another production, but they were $520 at the couple retailers that had them. I got mine off the forum for a bit less than that. Having it in the hand I can see why they had to charge that much; it's insanely complicated and I'm impressed they got it to operate so smoothly. My only niggle is that due to the locking mechanism design, it has a slight up/down blade play. The shifting components have no play, however, and the locking mechanism seems secure.

I almost don't want to admit how strongly I've been considering picking up one of these lately. I wouldn't be surprised if I go ahead and pull the trigger at some point, likely some Friday or Saturday night ;)

EDIT: You know what? Eff it! DLT had them at a decent chunk off retail, cashed in some points and got one on its way 🤪

Have you looked at Laguiole? They have some incredibly beautiful pieces designed like this.

I have always admired the brand from afar, particularly when Z Zeroedin posts his wonderful collection of French knives. I can certainly see myself picking one of those up at some point, or even collecting multiples of these types of opener/knives. Something about this one though was just calling to me since I first saw it (see my edit in the post above 🤣 )

I really like the Wine Master also. After my first was confiscated by airport security due to an error by the front door security, I bought another. I enjoy having a sharper foil blade than what you see in normal store openers. I like the corkscrew is a decent length. But, I love the two stage lever to open against. It makes use super easy compared with normal SAK type corkscrews. Of course, at home, a Rabbit opener is even quicker.

Came across this one.
That looks pretty neat, I like
how the knife works in tandem with the sheath.

Nice! A lot cooler than just a regular wine opener.
Beautiful slipjoint, and handy to
boot.
Can’t forget the Mora Light my Fire.

You beat me to it. Was gonna post mine as well. Neat little blade, and nice and thin as well.
