Here ye shall find all the commentary, questions, and whatnot associated with this months current challenge. Ask your questions here and they will be answered. Ask your questions in the challenge thread and they will be moved here, answered, then edited to have a picture of Moose in his skivvies in them. Commentary, do what you will.

Challenge thread can be found here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...llenge-Urban-Survival?p=14111426#post14111426

Good luck, godspeed, and may the force be with you!

Whew, this one is going to be tough.

So, question about something. The contest thread says "show how your Becker knife helped you in your endeavor". But... the EDC setup I posted photos of doesn't have a Becker in it (can't carry a fixed blade here legally). So...

?

And what do you mean by shelter? Just someplace we find that we can stay out of the "weather" for those 12 hours, or is it supposed to be viable for > 12 hours as well (even though we would only be in the challenge for 12).

Well hate to put you in a situation, but you gotta have a Becker knife in there somewhere. It can be in the pack if need be but there has to be one in there somewhere.

Shelter, something for longer than 12+ hours.

Not wanting to compete with the homeless here I've got to rule out obvious spots and maybe focus on parks and city property in-between dense areas. I assume that parks are ok as long as they are within the city.

Sure that would work. I left some stuff vague for a reason. Use your judgement, best or otherwise.

My BK2 broke up the fatwood that's in my fire kit... that count? Or do I have to actually carry it? I'm just pretty sure I don't want to tempt fate is all, so if its required, I'll probably just sit this one out (but watch with interest :)).

And we'll see if I can get out for a Saturday this month. The closer we get to the holiday season, the less likely I am to just have 12 hours to go bum around in the city.

This is going to be fun. Austin is densely populated with neighborhoods and parks. We have a green belt that runs right through downtown. I'm going to try to stay out of the green belt as that doesn't seem fair to the challenge.

There was a question in the info thread about where I got my fresnel lens. I actually found mine in the checkout line at Barnes and noble. They also had huge whole page sized fresnel lenses, which would probably be a lot of fun to play with on a sunny day.

My current location is pretty rural. Maybe I can find some time to go to town and try the challenge. Sounds like fun.

Sorry, Becker knife is required.

I'm gonna go to Springfield next weekend... Figured that is a bit better than in St. Louis. Still "urban" but less undesirable elements.

Oh darn, I should've posted in the edc thread! I live in a large city with a lot of cool places I could've done this in, and I've always got my 11 with me.

Oh well! It'll be really fun to read other peoples' entries.

TO BE ELIGIBLE YOU MUST HAVE POSTED A PICTURE OF YOUR EDC IN THE ORIGINAL KNOWLEDGE THREAD!!!

that sucks

Don't worry, there will be plenty more chances. I didn't post a skills/knowledge thread this month because we will have more contests and stuff that are independent of that whole process. Plenty of goodies to grab. Tis the season and all that. ;)

I really hope my schedule works out to where I can make a trip downtown and take a stab at this challenge. I've been looking forward to this one especially since I moved up to the city and got a job on the complete opposite side of town from where I live. The challenge sounds like a fun one too... Spend the whole day downtown, just your EDC and, without buying anything etc., secure a few objectives in the process to help make that day easier. I'm also really looking forward to seeing the entries submitted.

looking forward to hearing who learned what during their challenge. my bet is dealing with or avoiding people is the toughest part.

i didnt get my pic uploaded to the thread but i did post a list of what i have..would that count...also does it only have to be 12 hours i was thinking doing a 24 hour set to show a complete day
PICS OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN!! im guessing lol

Alright.... I'm shooting for Sunday! We'll see. So far, my Schedule this November hasn't been conducive to completing the challenge.
