November Buck of the Month

Yeah, that's a little steep.......or maybe a lot steep.

But, if they can sell them for that price, more power to them.

Have fun, boys.

:)

I really wish they would up the steel in these. Yea their LE's but that's a big chunk of change for 420. I can see for ppl like JB that love that particular model and it's not one you see to many LE's of but with upgraded steel I would think that would widen the range of interested parties. jbmonkey jbmonkey pics when it comes please.

One feature of the 532 that ups the price is that they usually have file work. I don't see that this BOM has that file work.

Yes, it does have the filework. Here's a pic.
I'm in the I need better steal for this price camp, which they have been doing on the BOTM lately! I need one of these, but I may have to pass.

I was all set to jump on it when I saw the notification and picture about 30 minutes after they went on. Matches my skblades burlap 110 and 501. Went to the Buck site as fast as possible and signed in, found the BOTM page, scrolled down, saw they were still available and then saw 420hc. It was a let down. I was expecting to see S35vn or at least s30v especially at $180 price. It certainly looks nice and I’ve always wanted a 532 only in upgrade steel. Well maybe another day.

I too like the look but let it be because of the steel. The 532 is one of my favorites, maybe next time they will run it in a different blade.

Well... actually the frames are sintered metal castings and the form is in the dies.
There is no additional labor cost for filing, the grooves are just cast in.
Sorry to disappoint. /Roger

So it does, I looked at the picture, 420HC, the price and moved along. Thanks for the additional info, Roger.

Yes, it is pricey when you remember that in June of last year Smoky Mountain had a Buck 532 with G10 scales for $100. I'm not sure how we got from $100 to $180 with a scale change. That said, it is a good price point strategy considering every BOM has been a sell out. I'm sure this one will be no exception. You could conclude that Buck has undervalued its products in the past when they sell for more on eBay than retail. I'm sure Buck would rather have that money in their own pocket. I'll have to compare the G10 version to this new one when it arrives.

On another note, I wish Buck would give up on those pine boxes, they are always way over sized for what they contain and become a storage headache. I do like wood boxes but make the size more form fitting. /Roger

Sadly I skip on these BOM knives due to the value and not my budget, I would have to still skip most for budget, there is usually such a heavy price tag that feels like it is for the fact it is LE. While I love the burlap myself I have mostly had my fill of it would have liked to see something else in the handles and a better steel. I know that buck does great with their 420HC but I’d rather this be $199 and have S30v than 420HC at $180.

everyone made a good point on the high price point. what drove me in is how rare we see current production buck labeled 532s anymore. this model isnt extinct in current production, but close to it. any version 532 I would have bit down on. the burlap wasnt a driver at all for me.

I'd have preferred s35vn or s30v or cpm 154 ya name it, but just like 532s and that got me to bite down. the limited part i have little to no interest in. limited editions annoy me when a great combo of materials pops up and I cant grab one due to cost or short window to grab and limited hobby funds.

it's good for buck I assume or they wouldnt do it and also good for many collectors I assume or they wouldnt do it, but I'm not a collector in that regard. just like good quality buck models.

I agree with you jbmonkey jbmonkey about the 532 being the biggest driving force on this BOM. I haven’t really handled a 532 but based on its specs and the Bucks I have owned or handled it is a highly desirable model for me but I want to wait for something that checks more boxes for me considering it is usually in a high price range for a Buck kickback folder.

I hate to be negative. But the blade shape is a real turn off for me. It has no belly. It looks like it’s been sharpened badly for 10 years. At least it’s not a recurve.
