Novice 1911 Questions

If you do a full strip, and remove the mainspring housing from the receiver, you will understand why people say they are complicated.

I don't think that a basic 1911 is that complicated, but then I've been taking them apart for years. If you want complicated, take a P7 down to the frame. It was a damn good thing I had another one to look at when I tried to put it back together, I just didn't have the six fingers you need.

I have been a gun guy for over half my life, and had to go to the manual, big-time, to get it back together, properly, and it took over an hour. Have dissassembled and re-assembled double actions in 20 minutes.

Thanks for the information Steven. :) I apreciate it. I have not taken a single gun apart, only shot a bunch of 12 gauge, .22's and a few 9mm and once the .45. So it's nice to hear things explained that I have not seen yet. I have a friend who is a gun smith so if I need to do anything to a gun, I have him do it. He's a Big 1911 guy too. So when I get mine he'll help me work on it.

i learned to shoot pistols with a WW2 P38 and a 1911, its probably better to start with a .22 though.
