This spot on my road has not flooded since 1984. They even rebuilt the bridge and raised everything about 4 feet.
And its only been raining heavily for about 20 minutes

Right while I was having fun in my truck this guy comes along...

He closed down the road and camped out in his truck..

Okay, so any rain pics? And why did I put this in the Busse forum without an OFF TOPIC tag? Because I heard a HUGE tree go down in the woods and shake the ground. Its been a long time since I broke out my FBMLE and that was the first thing I thought :)

As soon as this rain clears out, I am going out to play with my long lost friend...my first...the FBMLE

Any flood pics out there?

No rain pix...but YEAH, I'd say so! Over 5.8 inches here since Sept. 1st... About the same as from Irene! ...and still falling...

Is it time to start building an ark??? :D

Whats rain? Seriously its 107 today and it probably won't rain until December.

Send some to Texas. I am in DFW and we have not gotten more than 5-10 minutes of drizzle since around May. Central Texas is burning to the ground as we speak. There is a 20+ mile wide fire outside of Bastrop/Austin area. Beloved FEMA showed up and news reports are circulating that volunteer firefighters are driving a day or more to help dig channels and ditches to stop the fire spreading, but are being sent away by FEMA because they don't have firetrucks or a way to spray water. It is ridiculous especially because the majority of fire containment has to do with creating breaks where the fire cannot spread any further according to a lot of these reports, and a lot of these volunteers have their own equipment and dozers ready to help. Good example of government efficiency and teamwork. Really frustrating

Sorry guys, and for the record I was not sticking my tongue out at anyone experiencing the drought. That sounds awful.

We are looking at rain rain rain rain rain all week. But it hasn't gotten heavy yet, and from time to time it stops raining and I go out ... and get rained on heading home.

You guys in Texas need a really good engineer and everyone's troubles will be over. Tell N'Orleans you can save them from floods forever, and they will finance the project. Then build a BIG pipeline from the Mississippi River to Texas and you can even water your lawn all summer long. They sure don't need all that water in Louisiana.

the good lord willing and the creeks don't rise
mississippi river wider than the skies
open the levee and save the city
cajun people get no pity

Richstag, I didn't think you were sticking your tongue out at all. It is just really weird weather. You guys are getting more rain than you want, and we are finally experiencing what NM and other states already have. It just blew my mind that people are willing to risk their lives to help total strangers and our state is not even allowed to let our own citizens help out. Here is a link to a local news paper if you want your blood to boil.

I don't usually get too political on here but this really made me do a facepalm

Esav, you are right, that would be a blessing right now. The funny part is that we have huge aquifers in central Texas and they are so deep that they still have plenty of water in them, but a lot of these city ordinances are only allowing watering 1 time a week or less. Besides peoples houses and foundations cracking, they could be preventing much of the spread in urban areas.

Been raining here in North Jersey for days. Had a few days rest after Irene, then started again. They expect the Passaic River to peak again this Friday, and flood the area again. My town has been o.k., but you see Wayne, Little Falls, Passaic, on the National news all the time, showing the flooding.

Yep, its nasty down here, and getting worse daily. Even the mountain cedars are turning brown, and going up like roman candles when some idiot throws a lit cigarette out his window. :(

Pompton PLAINS is a flood plain, right next to Wayne. We get light rain for days, and the next thing you know, all routes out of town are washed out. Water runs downhill from everyone around us. When it's real bad, the lakes at the low part of town have risen 6 feet.

I know your area well. Its pouring now outside,as we speak. A lot of businesses are getting pounded by this weather. WillowBrook Mall was hit hard, with loss of Back to school business, and Verner Cadby Ford in Fairfield just recently did a complete renovation of their building and shop, and I saw all their furniture and equipment piled up waiting for sanatation dept to pick up. completely flooded. They moved their cars, along with the Mercedes place, off their lots to higher grounds. I hope things get better for you soon.

I remember coming out this way on the bus from NY years ago. Wayne and Willowbrook were under water, every spring, houses stuck up on the middle of lakes. There has been a lot of improvement, but not nearly enough. When certain residential districts flood routinely, that's unacceptable.

Some of that should have been avoided. We have a street near me that floods badly. But that whole area is near those low-lying lakes I mentioned. It used to be farmland! Spring floods are a good thing for farmers.

Of course, that's why my dad bought a house halfway up a steep hill. :p

That is crazy to turn away help!!

On my way out I got a quick cell phone shot of a rather large tree that was smashed and split into the side of the bridge. This is the structure that is on top of the bridge and would keep you from driving off...not the underneath. The river in the picture is the one that got so high that it flooded out the entire road that is usually about six feet higher then the river.

Thought is was kind of crazy :) Does that qualify as batoning?

Yeah I think that counts haha, cool pic. I can't believe the water level got that high. What's the general rule? One foot or two of rushing water can take a car away?

Yeah, I think that would be enough to keep me from driving through rushing water for fun :)

We had a mostly dry day in north Jersey, some bright sunshine, briefly, this afternoon.

Yeah, pretty relaxed day here too, not hardly any rain. I was going to go back out with the mistress and I got stung in the throat by a wasp...and I am allergic. Random for the day, Adolph's Meat tenderizer neutralizes bee venom.

Maybe tomorrow I will get some chopping time in :)

We're drowning over here. By 2 pm, we had about 3" in the last 24 hours ... and it just won't stop.

Please, make it stop.

We've got police down the block all night, keeping people from driving onto the flooded highway.
