The 0350sw was my first ZT, and a fine blade it is. But I never really fell head over heels for it, until now that is. After reading how great it is without the assist I gave it a try but never really "got it". I just couldn't get it to flip for me. Then I learned the proper manipulation of the thumb stud/stops. And damn! This thing sure is smooth!
And what perfect timing for the next run of SKD 0360s to come along. Now I'll have that tiger stripe blade I really wanted the first time around.

The 0350 is buttery smooth without the Speedsafe. I recently removed all the coating on it, and man is it even smoother now.

Is there a sufficient detent on it without the speedsafe?

Absolutely. I deassisted my 0350SW almost a week ago and it is super smooth. It takes alot of effort to get the blade to deploy without using the flipper or studs. More than sufficient detent in my opinion.

I was luke warm about my 350, untill I de-assisted mine while acid dipping/stone washing the blade and making O D Green Canvas Micarta scales for it. It is now a smooooth operator, and I like it much better de-assisted !Z T knives Apr 1, '13 009.jpgSnow,Doves,0200 Knife 012.jpgSnow,Doves,0200 Knife 013.jpgSnow,Doves,0200 Knife 015.jpg

Very nice scales. I need to pick up a second 350 to mod.

If you're going to keep it de-assisted, might as well swap out the back spacer for stand-offs

You can swap out the spacer for standoffs and still leave it assisted.

Yeah but then you got that little hook sticking out between the standoffs. It looks too unfinished and that would drive me nuts.

I strongly dislike assisted knives. It adds complexity to the knife for another peice that can break, and almost any ZT can be flipped open manually just as fast as assisted.

I don't see the point... I'm gonna deassist my 0350 as well.

I wish I could do this with my kershaw knockout :'(

You and me both. The knockout is such a great knife that would be even better without speedsafe. Or at least drill a detent hole to give us the option to de-assist it.

If you're injured or physically constrained in some way the facility of having an assisted knife is fairly obvious. Parachuters and pilots used to use autos because of the potential of injury and the urgent need to deploy with a minimum of effort if you're hanging by a thread with the thread around your neck. Also, if you've got a touch of arthritis you may appreciate assisted opening.

Well with a flip of your finger you can open an unassisted knife just as quickly...

I love the assisted opening Kershaws/ZT's. Just picked up a few non-assisted and while those are not bad, i still visions of futn'nancy and other youtubers madly wrist flipping their knives. Jury is still out for me, i'm sure i'll be over it in a few days. I will be getting a Blur soon, I may de-assist it.

My 560 makes me want to de-assist my 350. Any one with both that has done it? Is the de-assisted 350 just as buttery smooth as the 560?
