Why everyone likes their KMG sooooo much. I purchased one back in the summer I have make a couple of knives with it, I though this grinder is pretty good. I had posted back in the summer asking for help with motor getting hot. Well I figured out why the motor was getting hot. the belts was slipping just enough to create heat, grinder stilll performed well so I thought. Since I have adjusted the belt this thing is un-real grinds like crazy, sparks and metal fly of the belt. I can't believe the difference!!!! I just had to share :D

Me too! funny, because the real kmg is a no weld grinder :D

I plan to make mine out of heavy steel plate, I will post pics when i do.

I have a kmg and another grinder with some good wheels and parts. It is about to become a lot of weld grinder, I am going to make it almost identical to my KMG so it can use my KMG tool bars. I will weld up the tool bar box, the mounts and etc. There is no need to take those pieces apart and I can weld quicker and easier than drill and tap. Plates are sheared and laying in a pile. Now for some time off. 72 hours a week leaves little free time
 
I am tossing around the idea of buying a cheap flux core mig welder to make the grinder. I know that having a welder around will also come in handy for other projects as well. Problem is, I do not know how to weld and do not know if the cheapo welders will be alright for me. I am not planning on using it often nor do I intend to have the best looking welds. I do however, need it to make two pieces of steel to stick together for a long long time.

What do you guys think? buy a cheap welder or spend my money on other stuff?

22H2, I will make sure the belt is nice and tight!!!
 
If you buy a cheap welder go find a used 220v buzz box that does DC. and hits about 130 amps on the DC setting. You can have more rod types and switch overs and less problems than a cheap mig. Trust me on this I have good 2 Migs and a gas powered welder as well as an old buzz box like I described. and the old box gets by far the most work. Always ready, never jams, stainless, 7018, or chrome rod just change rods not rolls. Want to move just drag the lead not the whole machine. I can get a rod places I could never get a mig gun.
