After much thought, advice and research, I've decided to ignore everyone. I bought a 30 inch Kumar Kobra. At 2 pounds 12 ounces, it is a "mad slashers" dream! It is a little long for general purpose work and carry.

BUT I DON'T CARE

!! It's mine and I can do what I want

Anyway, thought you all should know--oh, and I placed an order with Bill for a Katana. Now I just gotta wait for my Tarwar to arrive.

Ain't HIKV fun?!!

So? I have a 30" Sirupati and a Kora, both far heavier - but if you just have one swing...

If nothing else it'll be great for building up your muscles so you can make a 25" kobra move like lightning. Just don't do a Yvsa and go dancing nekkid with it before you know each other really well. You might lose something impotent to you. Er, I meant to say important.

Khukuri FAQ

:
DD the 30" Kobra isn't a bad khukuri at all.
The biggest problems with them I believe is that some people thought of them as full blown HI Khukuri's instead of thinking of them as a full blown HI Sword.
Their length versus their thickness doesn't promote certain types of chops in hardwood, and possibley softwood as well, as the torque inflicted on the blade with that much power behind it could cause the khukuri to bend.
The reports that came in talked about making some very deep cuts in branches about 5" in diameter, cut at an angle.
And sometimes in removing the blade would also cause it to bend.
The khukuri/sword makes a very fine weapon and I congratulate you on your taste.
It's definitely an impressive heads rolling style of khukuri/sword.

Oh and the one Rusty refered to me about getting nekkid and dancing with was a little pointy 17" Village Sirupati.
It was the sort of knife that when a person picked it up you could tell what they were thinking.
I had several people tell me the same thing about it, that it made them feel like dancing nekkid in the woods with it.

I traded it off for several nice chunks of Bois'D Arc or Osage Orange for stick bows and knife handles.
I still miss it.

I agree, this is not a general purpose "working Khukuri". This is definately a "head cutter" and slasher. Some will think that 2 3/4 pounds a might heavy. Well, a very popular sword maker I know markets a Wakizashi that weighs 3 pounds and a Katana that hefts a remarkable 4 pounds!! I am currently selling another Wakizashi by Mineral Mountain that also weighs a little over 3 pounds.

But, as I said, I don't care. It's new, it's by Kumar, the cho is closed, and it is definitely MINE

Death Dancer,

The main thing is that you are happy with the khukuri and like it.

Uncle Bill keeps trying to discontinue some things, but I can't remember him succeeding so far. He discontinued he hatchmarks on the 18th Century. They are back. He sold out of 12 inch AK's 3 or more years back. Now they are back in the line. He discontinued Hanuman. It's back.

Yeah, DD, I know Unc has said the 30" KK is gone. Wave money at him and he'll geek.

He's better, cause soon as income tax returns arrive and I can stash a little aside... remember, I have that 6 pound 30" Sirupati to swing til the 30" KK feels like air.

Khukuri FAQ

I asked Rusty about the weight of his 30 inch Sirupati, if it was actually 6 pounds. He said he just took Bill's word for it. Does anyone know what it actually weighs? Even I would balk at swinging a 6 pound sword. My Eastern Barbarian Sword only weighs about 3 pounds!!

Discontinuing any model is just like quitting smoking...

So easy to do for many times. Whenever you quit, somebody shows up to remind you.
