Got my UBDOTD UBE today and also my 15" AK!!!

I thought I have hikv bad from must looking at the HI web page, but now that I have mine in hand....anyone want to buy a house???
biggrin.gif
hell I could live in a tent but where would I store all of the Kuk's??

Both the AK and the UBE have horn handles...the AK is round and the UBE is slabs, and nice slabs they are.

Took my AK out and cleared a path through my golden bamboo and noticed that even the small springy branches just popped off when my AK touched them. Not near as heavy or awkward as I thought it might be. I could clear a lot of brush with this thing!

Did not have an M80 tank to chop up in my yard but took my UBE out and whittled some loose wood laying around the yard. It is very suprising just how delicate the UBE will cut with some carefull watching of my hands and the blade. This is a very AWSOME looking and feeling blade....yea, though I walk thru the vally of death I think this BIG BABY will chop up death itself

I am totally blown away at the workmanship knowing just how primitive the Kamis have it with regards to modern machine shops!!!!

My AK has a small half moon on the left side of the blade and my UBE has what looks like a "lazy M" (my wife says it looks like a sail boat)on the left side. Are these the signatures of the Kami and if so who are they?

So, lets see now, 1 15" AK, 1 UBE, 1 village surapti, 1 C.S. Gurkha. Now this should last me for awhile....like hell too, I am off to the HI web page to look for more...this HIKV is making me crazy!

Cresent moon is Bura, lazy m or flags is Durba, the new Kami. Bura is the old master, and makes excellent knives and swords.

Correct info, DD, and thanks for help.

Nobody makes them better than Bura when he's in the right mood but he's a tempermental little cuss and I can tell by his work when he's had a fight with the wife or something has not gone right.

Our new man, Durba, is top notch and is proving to be not only an excellent kami but a good producer.

Except for one item, everything I own from HI is either by Bura or Kumar. That one item is by Sanu, and it's an 18 inch Sirupati I traded with Berkley.

Bura makes bullet proof stuff, but it is a little heavier than Kumar's.

Hope to get something by Durba in the future, since everyone that owns one says he does excellent had work.

Muzzleup,

Glad to hear you and the new UBE are having fun together. Try cutting ogham letters in the side of a large cardboard box, that will show you how the tip works- and the chakma.

Finnean;
I finally got the blades sharp enough to slice paper cleanly. Neither came with what I would call a very sharp edge and the AK was almost what I consider dull.
They're both sharp now... a lot of blade to work on! Pheew!

I can get almost as excited when someone new to H.I.Khukuri's gets their first one as I do myself when I get another long brown package from our femail-man.
Notice I said, "Almost."

DeathDancer,

Ogam (correct spelling, and which means "grooved writing") is an ancient Celtic alphabet consisting of fifteen consonants and five vowels with a few other signs representing double letters such as the sound ng, and dipthongs. The letters are constructed from single parallel strokes placed in sets of one to five, in positions above, across, or below a guide line. The letters are easily scribed (or cut) on a variety of media (stone, ceramics, wood, cardboard boxes, etc.) and can be represented by the fingers of both hands as exhibited on ancient Celtic statuary.

Thanks to Barry Fell.

Finnean,

Is that why Cuchulain is pronounce "Cahoolan" in Gaelic instead of the way it phonetically looks in English? I think I spelled the "Skin Turner's" name correctly. If not, apologies to those with Irish antecedents.

Oh yeah, my Blood Brother's name is O'leary

Irish phonetics are definately headache material. As I know it "ch" is pronounced like "c" aspirated- broad as in loch, or slender as in German ich. English spelling of Irish words inevitably leads you astray if you don't have an Irish grammar handy. Even then, it's a crapshoot, at least for me anyway. Add to that "old" and "new" spellings, and four dialects- East Munster, West Munster, Connacht, and Ulster.
