Now Looking for a fixed blade

The scrapper 5 is an awesome knife! The mudder handle is comfortable and stays in my hand even when wet. Can't say enough good things about this knife. It's a good all around blade that can handle most tasks. The length doesn't lend to being the best chopper but it does get the job done, and I can baton with it. Sounds like you have your heart set on a longer blade, but just wanted to say how much I like this knife.

True that! :)

Yep, better order them now because once they stop production and move on to the next model the prices will jump a lot. ;)

The Tank Buster will never be as cheap again as it is right now. :D

ok don't take the zombie invasion thing serious. i don't need a foot long blade. i have a gun for the zombies or i will get a sword. just want a nice fixed blade to take a beating. somewhere in the 6-7 inch range (give or take a .5 inch)

rat 5 looks really nice . . .

The RAT 5 isn't a 6-7 inch blade, ar0maticdecay, not even giving or taking .5". If you're willing to consider a RAT 5, you should also consider a Becker BK-2. And removing the thumbramp on the Scrapper 5 is an easy fix. I had it done to mine and it worked out great. Also, if a 7.5" blade is a possibility, you should consider a Scrap Yard SoD or a Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. (You'll need to go to the secondary market for those. And the SoD will be easier to find than the Camp Tramp, I suspect.)

My ONLY issue with INFI is that it's expensive. But for those who can afford to throw $300 at a 6", fixed-blade knife, it's my first choice as well.

You think $300 is expensive?

Those same knives that are now $300 will be selling for $500 a year from now. ;)

You don't have to tell me. I bought a SHSJ CG from Skunk back in 2004 for $225.00. I couldn't afford it then but I knew I had to have at least ONE piece of INFI in my collection. The last time I looked, that knife was selling for $700 on the secondary market. If only my stocks had done so well.

Stocks will never do as well and INFI. :D

You really can't lose buying INFI. ;)

the rat 5 is about 5.5 inch blade to the handle. 5.25 of cutting edge. just trying to be a little more open to a slightly smaller knife after talking to some1. starting to realize a 7 might be a little too big to carry without it weighting u down after a while.

If that's the case, I'd jump on the Scrapper 5 LE if I were you. You're not going to find a better deal for INFI and as Ankerson pointed out, you won't lose money if you don't like it and decide to sell it on the aftermarket.

I know several INFI collectors that like Fehrman knives. I don't own a Fehrman. But given that I've got a lot fewer questions about Busse Combat INFI knives than I do about Fehrman CPM-3V knives and they cost roughly the same, I'd probably stick with INFI.

I can't say for sure either. I don't own one. The steel they use (CPM -3V) seems to be well respected performance wise. Ron Hood swears by them over at Hoods Woods http://survival.com/fehrman.htm

I want to see a real field test and see Noss do a DTest on one before I make any judgements.

There are a lot of great 6-7" blades that can be had for the $100 - $150 range. Check out some of the custom makers, like Koyote, Walter Davis, Stomper etc.

I'm not trying to offend the OP here, but referring to the need for a zombie killer, kind of sounds like not really knowing what he wants to do with the knife, just wants something really thick and tough. In my experience, whenever I bought a knife that I didn't really know what I'd do with it, it just ended up collecting dust. A $300 dust collector is a sad thing IMO.

Really think about what you want to do with the knife on hand. This is even more important with a 6-7" blade, the so called mid-range, which can be great "all rounders" if designed right or "not useful at anything" if applied for the wrong purposes.

For productions, RC-6 is a good blade with the right thickness for its length. Ranger - RD6 will give you a 0.25" beast as will a Scrapyard SOD. Really though - you don't need 0.25" in a 6" knife even if folks try to convince you it is cool to have. If you do go for a 0.25" chunck of steel then make sure to have it convexed to decent sharpness. Horton is doing some excellent super thick stock knives with a really keen convex edge. I really didn't care for my Scrapyard SOD at first until I did some mods to it (removed the ramp and guard and convexed the edge). Now I find it much more versatile. I used to only use it for chopping but now I can get a hold of it the way I like for more fine scale stuff.

The RC-6 is an amazing knife. If your limit is $300 you can discount all the Busse's because I highly doubt you'll get 6"+ of INFI for that.

The RC-6 IS an amazing knife, but for just under $300, you can actually pick up a brand new Busse Tank Buster, 6 inches of INFI blade (11.5 inches overall), customized to your liking:

Edit : Seems I was beaten to this, but it bears repeating.
