Ok, all you ax freaks, go turn your tvs on and watch the next 4 hours of TimberSports Competition:thumbup: on ESPN2 if you think you've got a sharp ax:rolleyes: check these guys out! A young 22 year olf guy from Pennslyvannia just won with his ax.

This has Siguy written all over it as far as the sharp edge of things go:D

Check out the shape of these axheads, and the length of handles. Watch the bites they take:eek:

See you in 4 hours to discuss what we watched:thumbup:

watching it right now, thanks for the heads up.

the event where they stand on top of the log and chop it between their legs is insane.

One of the previous champs, Dave Jewett, was on the crew that took out two very large black walnut trees from my parent's yard a number of years ago. He didn't bring along his axe or hot saw, but you could tell that he knew his way around timber. He was pretty busy the whole time and didn't want to boast about his accomplishments, but you could tell that he was a hard and precise worker.

By the way, instead of having those trees chipped up or cut into rounds for firewood, I had them sawn up into some magnificent lumber that I've been using over the past couple years. I'm almost finished with a bed frame for me and the wife.

Ok guys, who watched the wood fly:eek:?

I saw folks from Australia and New Zealand represented:thumbup:

Folks from all around the USA too:thumbup:

Anyone know any of the folks who participated? There was Mike Sullivan from CT; a young buck named Cassidy Sheer from Haywood, WS; another young buck named Will Roberts from PA I think; Arden Cogar Jr from WV? on the 'misery whip'/ 6 ft single saw and if you watched then you know why it was nicknamed the 'misery whip' by the oldtimers' who used one:foot:

All in all worthwhile 4 hour tv program worth watching IMO:D Stihl Timbersports has done a good job keeping these skills alive over the years. I knew a guy from Ledyard, CT, one fo the Geer boys who did pretty well on that circuit back 20 odd years., at least it seems that long ago:o

Anyone here ever go watch the competition in person? I'd be really inclined to go if I lived in Columbus, GA! Those axes are either highly polished or chromed from the looks of them. Also, they appeared to be pretty thin in edge and deep like 6" from edge to poll. Some of the ax cutting was downright impressive, times of 20 SECONDS on an 11" round:eek:

Hey Tracker, check out the racing axes here: http://www.tuatahiaxes.com/

they are generally highly polished, with a 6-7 pound head, and around 30-35" handles. Usually you buy the head and custom fit your own handle. I have heard of a certain world champ (11" underhand chop in around 14 seconds) that often chops through a round and then shaves his face with his axe...so they are very sharp!

I've been DYING for one of those axes. Steven Dick did an article on knives that the company made a few magazines back.

I'm going to get better at chopping between my feet though before I order one of those. You think anyone will buy a Joe Toe necklace?
