hey folks.. just thought i would share some pics of my new Fiddleback Terrasaur... this is just a quick little review and i can't wait to get this out in the woods..

as most of you may know, "the Terrasaur" is a bushcraft knife designed by our very own Joezilla(a.k.a. Joe Flowers) and brought to life by Brian Andrews of Off The Map Outfitters and Andy Roy of Fiddleback Forge.. the Terrasaur is a very well thought out bushcraft knife... Joe did an excellant job on the design.. he combined many different aspects of other knives and merged them into one..

here's some specs:

-9 in. overall.
-1/8 thick.
-O1 steel.
-scandi grind.
-4.125 blade.
-4.75 handle.
-Bocote scales.
-SS pins and inner lanyard tube.

Andy's trademark packaging.. i couldn't wait to check this thing out..

and here she is... isn't she beautiful.. the scandi bug has bitten me hard..

the Bocote scales on this are absolutly gorgeous... Andy's bullseye lanyard hole, is also a nice addition to an already amazing blade..

IMG_7228.jpg

since the flats on this still have the forge finish on them, Andy put his makers mark on the bottom of the spine..

i was fortunate enough to not only score Andy's first knife he ever sold, but score one of these beauties as well and might i add, Andy did an amazing job on this one... it's been really cool to watch Andy's work progress over the past few years... he has gone from a hobby knifemaker to a full time knfemaker with many cool designs in his lineup...

here is the first knife Andy ever sold.. it was one of a small batch of 6 Nessmuk's that Andy made many years ago... it's got a 3/32 thick 1095 blade with east indian rosewood and red liners.. it even has a cool/rare Fiddleback made sheath... the thing is bomber..
to this day it still remains one of my favorite and most used knives...

IMG_7244.jpg

with Andy's awesome handle contours, the Terrasaur feels nice and comfortable in the hand... i have Med. sized hands..

IMG_7232.jpg

the longer handle feels like it gives a lot of extra control when gripping the blade..

IMG_7231.jpg

like all of Andy's knives, the scandi grind on this one was insanely sharp.. it's almost scary.. it cut notches, carved and made fuzz sticks with ease..

i got this one without a sheath and was eagerly awaiting it's arrival, so i could get started on one for it... it came out great.. pics coming soon..

thanks again Andy.. this thing is amazing, i am in love.. great job on the design once again Joe...

cheers.. Mike T

over the past few years, i have been making sheaths(as well as other leather goods) here and there.. so i have been ordering a lot of customs without them... after seeing how sharp this blade was i quickly got to work on the sheath, the first chance i got.. i worked on it the day i got it and finished it the following afternon...:o

this is what i ended up with...:D it's is 9-10 oz. veg. tanned leather, wet formed and dyed with a medely of different colors that i have been meaning/needed to get rid of... the sheath is med. brown with a little ox blood.. the edges are med. brown and black...

the fit on the blade and firesteel loop is nice and snug.. and it rides nice and high on the hip just as i prefer it..

i like the difference in colors on the edges and the rest of the sheath..

let me know what you all think...

cheers.. Mike

Nice knife Mike! I'm really impressed with your leather work man.. You did a great job on that one.

Sweet blade - that is on my wish list as well :)

Nice leather work, Mike - they look great together.

Excuse me? You have a career as a sheath maker, my friend, if you want it. That baby is gorgeous! As for the knife, wow. It looks so sharp it's scary. I love it!

Man, that sheath really looks fine Mike. It was a real treat to sell you a knife again also my friend.

Holy Crap, that is one fine looking blade!!! That Bocote just looks absolutely beautiful!

I'm gonna have to come by and visit, so I can play with it...

Nice clean work. Really like the color. Did you dab the brown on first then the second color for the oxblood color. Nice and smooth. Did you dye the sheath wet and did you coat it after you were done with something t finish it. Very nice. Regards, Loosearrow

Loose,

If I had my guess - that is not Oxblood. It is brown with black edging. I would be surprised if he didn't dip dye that one. With how even the color is - he likely dip dyed it after a small spritz with alcohol of some type. But these are just guesses.

Mike,

She looks awesome all the way around. How did you do the firsteel loop - did you skive it at all - or have three layer thickness at the top?

wow.. :o many thanks for the kind words folks... i appreciate it... i wanted to try and make a sheath as nice as the knife...:)

TF-- it is a little ox blood mixed with med. brown... and the edges are med. brown mixed with black... they were all remnants of Fiebings dye's that needed to be used up, so i just mixed them..

it is not dip dyed either, i used one of the dabers that came with the Fiebings dye.. i tried to get it as even as possible, without overdoing it..

the firesteel loop is indeed skived, to about the same thickness as the welt, as best as i could... i did use my belt sander a little on that too...:D

thanks again for the compliments.. it means a lot coming from you...
