Upon closer examination of my custom Bali-Song bowie, I 'discovered' that the "USA" etch, on the tang, doesn't have any periods after the letters. I looked at my brass WeeHawk, which I thought was my earliest, and it has periods after each letter (U.S.A.). It's the only one that is marked like this.........any thoughts?????

That's a nice observation.. yet ANOTER piece to the puzzle.. I shall go home and do research now.

That is strange... very strange.

I have consulted the very first Bali-Song custom to have stainless steel handles, a very early piece. It has periods in the U.S.A.

I have also noted on older pieces that the letters don't always like up perfectly indicating that the stamp was applied with individual stamps for each letter.

Further supporting this is one that I have seen in which the G in Bali-Song is missing.

So, minor variations may not be uncommon and may not carry great meaning.

In consulting early advertising, Les made a point of stating that his marks were "stress-free etchings" so as not to degrade the integrity of the steel. All of the Bali-Song customs that I have are electro-chemically etched and I've never seen one that was actually stamped with a die. I'm scanning an old catalog with the different butterflies that were available as well as the customs and all their options; I hope to put it up sometime today. Thanks for your observations Chuck and enjoy your new family member...
