clip point, back edge sharpened knives have been out a while, what has been your experience in using them?

Obviously they are great for piercing tasks but what about situations where an extended flatter cutting edge is useful?

I don't own one personally, but I can think of whittling tasks where I'd rather be using a flat edge than a curved one. If I had one I think the spine would become more of a scraping tool than anything-for fire rods, removing bark, making feathered kindling, removing green stuff from useable fibers, etc.

I found myself carrying my ESEE3MIL CP more often than a standard 3, being I use the CP portion as a dedicated firesteel striker...
the tip of the CP version is more refined for bushcraft skills in drilling etc. I know the CP versions don't get touted very often but I really enjoy mine . I don't Baton that much so I lost nothing there really... for me the CP ESEE fills a need more so than a standard 3 and that is having a surface area for the ESEE fire kit much needed striker without using the main portion of the blade

i really like that 3. i was thinking about getting a 3Mil eventually. But now a 3Mil CP looks more promising now.

have you noticed any problems with the clip point? i know i sometimes choke up on the blade with my hand, and that would obviously not be good with a clip point

perhaps this thread is suffering from the huge # of states that don't allow the double blade? I know that's the case with me. Well, I CAN possess it, but not USE it for SD...lol!

more legislature brain farts....

which state of the three you have listed are you referring to?

arkansas has NO limit on blade length (fairly recent) for ANYONE - any citizen can carry a 12" belt knife if they like...but even with my CCW I can't "use" a double bladed knife in self defense -or a shiv, or a dirk, etc...they call all of them the same in the law.

I was advised by my brother in law in TX, its the same...that he can't even carry a scaled down bowie with the clip point - imagine that! A texas law that you can't carry a bowie! that should be fightin' words, there! I'm sure Tony and others can fully explain TX laws...I'm just staying safe by avoiding the double edge...

Okla is just too darn fickle. I travel to Tulsa, and OKC for work, and then down to the red river area...thru many little towns, have to research each one...I just gave up on the double edge blade thing, mostly because I don't really need it anyway.

My CCW is honored in all three as I travel, so if I'm down to my knife for SD, things are gettin' bad and scrappy and I'm knee deep in it anyway.
And I'm gonna use my HEST prybar on his right nostril...lol! :D

yeah, oklahoma leaves judgements like this up to the arresting officer, basically... i have a cousin who got pulled over with a couple double edged knives and a straight razor... the cops had no idea what was legal, so they let him go. no length restriction for the state, but swords, machetes, bowies, etc. are not legal to carry. people down here go to wal-mart with ka-bars on their hips.

Damn Tony. I just convinced myself that I didn't need the 3 mil CP and then you post this picture and now I don't know how I can live without one :D
