Title pretty much says it all... should the now that things have slowed down (predictably) in the For Sale forums, is it time to recombine them into the easy to chew format we had before?

Kevin

I think a moderate position would serve us well. I think either the fixed/folders/auto distinction should go, or the custom/production distinction should go. However, I think that whichever distinction is removed, the other should stay.

I concur. I would be very happy if the custom/production distinction was retained, but the folder/fixed/auto distinction was dispensed with. !!!!

We can probably start by getting rid of the custom vrs. production. There is no clear demarcation point anyway. I would keep the rest; some of the volume drop might be due to the slow economy, and you may see a pickup in activity at any time.

yup. Too much of a pain in the a$$ to look at all of them the way they are now.

Kevin,
It was a lot more fun to peruse the for sale section the old way. Please recombine them.

Thanks.

PS...sometimes you cannot improve on a good thing.

Yes, yes, yes, please.

With not enough time to check everything, I’m sure impulse purchases are being missed completely.

Yes, please put `em back together!

Impulse buying, browsing is limited with having to jump around, yep I vote back together as well, even with both custom and production together as there may be a knife that someone not ever checking one or the other would think about unless they came across it.

Only deal would be, if your software will do it, to not allow the Original Poster to make a Reply (read bttt) until the next day, to help cutting down on the notorious bttting all the time....

If someone posts a question within the day, the original poster can edit his/her post with the required info. Or they can just email the person with the question or do a followup reply Post when the time limit permits.
I see that you have limited the length of time one can go back and edit each post...probably a wise decision!

The old combination seemed to work pretty well. I like Gary's thoughts too.

Combine them. It would make it much nicer browsing the for sale forums. I would rather see a fixed/ folder distinction over a custom/production distinction though. I just get tired of the "your knife isn't really a custom" fight that goes on.

Things did slow down a lot. The fee did it. The economy might have helped, but is a very secondary effect.

The server seems to have slowed in the past couple days. I had gotten quick (cable modem) at hitting all 5 categories, but now I've got a delay. If that delay is permanent, I'd consolidate a couple forums.

I'd like to see "Ground Rules for Sellers" posted somewhere.

I think the custom vs. production split is more useful myself...just an opinion. That way I don't have to wade through the more mundane stuff if I'm in a hurry (BM, Spyderco, CRKT). You could provide guidelines on the "nearly custom" debate in a seller's guidelines piece by naming the vendors who you believe are "high end production" or whatever. If this proves too contentious, what the heck, back to "Fixed vs. Folder" is pretty clearcut.

I'd like for sellers with multiple knives to post more than one knife in a given post. The moderators will have to police the more prolific single-entry specialists.

I do like the "no BTTT for 24hrs" rule, software permitting.

Just make it where you have fixed blades and then folders. Most people know if they are going to get a fixed verses folding knife before they look on the for sale forums, they might find a great deal on a custom that rivals the price of a production knife. And I agree also with the previous post about the difficulty of deciding if a knife is a custom or not, a tough decision in some cases. You should be able to easily to tell if the knife is fixed or folding.

I agree that they should all be put back together. It made shopping fun! There's no need to have a custom AND a production forum. It was like a flea market and the early bird "catches the worm". I'm also sure it would make it easier for you Kevin.

The one thing I CAN'T UNDERSTAND is that ever since Kevin made BF a paying proposition, (for sellers), the lurkers and buyers are seemingly gone! Where did they go since they don't have to pay?

in this case i think the concept of "less is more" certainly applies.....i agree with some of the above posts....make it just production and custom....thanks....feverdoc

I would prefer back to the old method. But if you keep a split, please make it fixed vs. folders and NOT production vs. custom. To many people get the posts wrong and then you end up having to check both. It would be pretty hard to mix up fixed vs. folders!!! Also, please allow us to make edits for a longer period of time.

Please recombine the sale forums. It was much better the old way

By the way, How has you knife store sales done since the For Sale forums are pretty much dead?;)

I personally like having everything separated for viewing. Its easier to find something specific.

Spark, I'm good for anything though, searching through knives is enjoyable no matter what format is used :)
